If this TSB is only paying the techs 1.7 hours on flat rate, and the subframe has to be dropped, and the steering rack removed expect some carnage Left behind. I think this time also includes the alignment, this is not enough time.

Give me month or so to report back.

Maybe they will rush it and cause my steering to be off balance. I’m thinking it can compensate for how my wheel came off centre from the factory :p

Hi from Spain.
In Europe we are very attentive to the evolution of this matter. Our dealers know nothing about this issue although we assume that the FL5 sold here are also affected by this problem. It would be very useful to have the complete Service Bulletin in pdf format so that this matter can be escalated to a higher level. Thank you.

Here's the service bulletin

This issue has been going on with the 10th gen cars for a while. I had to have my rack replaced last month. My 21 Type R became almost undrivable.

See my thread on CivicX, --> HERE

AKA Parts are not available yet for this recall, and they will prioritize vehicles that are having a steering issue over one without. If you aren't experiencing any issues do not try and get your car in.

I checked Carfax for the recall. My car is affected. Lame. Should've kept my M240i. Sounds like a serious problem with the steering wheel in effect locking up while driving. Looks like parts won't be available until December. Then the dealership hacks will trash the car.

Where did you hear parts won't be available until December?

You guys worry too much. It’s the same process as the regular civic. Wait a few months and get it done. I don’t think there’s been a report of sticky steering on the FL5 like the 22+ regular cars anyways.

It is very strange that no FL5 owners (that I know of) have reported this problem, not even those who have subjected their car to harsh treatment on the track.

However, we did know of similar problems in relation to the FL4 Hybrid, which have been on the market here in Europe for several years.

Yep -- I know a couple ASpec owners with the issue. Haven't heard of an FL5 / DE5 experiencing it... wasn't surprised to hear of the recall... was surprised to see FL5 / DE5 impacted.

This is my unofficial analysis:
The old design spec for the return spring was too high. This can result in the grease being pushed out of the worm gear's contact interface. What's interesting to note is that all non type R 22+ Civics have one part, and the Type R another.

My guess is that the Type R specific part, even in the old design spec, was on the safer side of the design range versus the regular cars. Even though problems haven't shown up in FL5/DE5s, they are moving the spring to the new "safe" spec to fully resolve the chance.

You are greatly exaggerating man. The steering does not "lock up" whatsoever. It "may" become slightly more difficult to "start" the initial turning process of the wheel. We are talking about barely starting the move the steering wheel to make a minor adjustment and you may feel it kind of give resistance. Think of not having power steering. I have had my 23 and have over 24k miles on it. No issues. Stop worrying so much and dramatizing over saying the "steering wheel will lock up" This is complete false information.

I checked Carfax for the recall. My car is affected. Lame. Should've kept my M240i. Sounds like a serious problem with the steering wheel in effect locking up while driving. Looks like parts won't be available until December. Then the dealership hacks will trash the car.
