Apple has been stuck with the iTunes library for decades and has wanted to migrate away from it. What I would suggest in your case is transferring your audio files to a newer device that the host system (i.e., FL5) recognizes.

Take your old iPod, connect it to a laptop/workstation with iMazing installed. Backup the device and transfer your audio files to a newer device.

Thank you for the serious response. Yeah I wish it were as easy as having USB. The 2025 Civic I tested had a USB-C port for CarPlay/Android Auto, but it just couldn't talk to the iPod. I think that unlike using a flash drive, some proprietary software is needed to connect with it and read the song info.

Now, the 2023 Civic had perfect support for the iPod even after all these years. I didn't get to try a 2024 but I noticed that the 2024 and 2023 have USB-A ports, but in 2025 they changed over to USB-C. If I could find a new 2024 Civic then it would be worth a shot...but I don't think the dealerships near me have any...

Did you ever find a solution to the CD thing? I think our problems are related. If there's a way to add aux in to a new car, then I would be able to use the iPod that way too.

If the issue is only to plug a USB A from your I Pod in a USB C, there are some adapter you can buy for cheap.

You can also buy on second hand market a "old" I Pod with bluetooth for cheap.

And that's with a USB c to A dongle? If the physical connection is the issue then it's relatively easy to bypass, but software is different. If you like everything else about the 2025 but that part, it might be worth a shot to swap that portion out yourself. I'm sure there's someone on the forums that would trade you too...

Yes, I got the "Unrecognized device" error even with the dongle. I also tried with a 30 pin to USB C cable. I was thinking more that the change in software might have happened at the same time as the change to USB C...but again unconfirmed.

How hard do you think it would be to swap out the multimedia system from a new car for one from 2023 or earlier? Would it be plug and play if you are just swapping one OEM headset for another? I would be willing to do it (or take it to a shop if it's hard) but I can't tell if it would mess up the cameras or other features. I couldn't find any info on this as people are almost never trying to "downgrade" their headset to a previous year...haha..........

Honestly I think the best thing you can do is head on down to your local dealership and go for a test drive. Just plug the iPod in and see if the cars recognizes it through the infotainment system. It'd be cool to see if the Apple Music app still displays your tracks (and plays them of course).

I'm really curious though... that's why I chimed in. My old 8th gen Accord recognizes my iPhone 16 Pro as "an iPod" through the USB connector and auto plays all the Apple music tracks on my phone when I push the Aux button on the old factory radio.
That is until I pull up YouTube Music or whatever because the whopping two tracks I have are played out now 😄

Good luck!!

I have a few years old I Pod and I tested it on my 2025 Civic.
It work but you must use bluetooth.

It won't work if you plug it into the USB without enabling Bluetooth.

Everyone who replied, do you have any I Pods?

No…and I never really searched for a solution. While I wish I could play CD’s, I don’t want to hodgepodge it either. I think I’d basically have to get a whole new head unit with a CD player…which would be a total nonstarter, in my book. Sucks, but it is what it is. I’ll just listen to my CD’s at home though I miss the process of physically selecting an album off the shelf before getting in my car for a drive. I used to do that with my old FA5 all the time.🥲

Have you tried a Bluetooth CD player? This seems like a good solution for connectivity:

Sounds good on paper so I decided to order one to give it a try.

You can find I Pod that will work for very cheap on Market place
I see one like mine. $50.

A CD player takes up a lot of space and more CDs. Where to put it all?

Yes, that’s understood.
Some of us simply enjoy choosing a physical album and playing it. We know it isn’t the most convenient nor space saving, but it brings a different kind of enjoyment…similar to people buying/playing vinyl records.

Interesting....I already ordered the one that I linked previously and will report back. Are you willing to to give the one that you linked a try?
Yeah…we’ll see. I’ve barely gotten the car out since winter has (seemingly) finally cleared up. Testing CD players in my car is just not high on the priority list at the moment. But if/when I give it a try, I’ll definitely report back here.
