I've been noticing the a lot of rattle sounds ever since I owned the car. After I fixed the B-pillar, it was good for a while - until I recently replaced the rear motor mount. After intalling the PRL rear motor mount, I've been hearing a lot of rattle coming from the passenger side, especially when driving at higher speed on concrete road. The rattle is noticeable even on asphalt road and it is getting pretty annoying. After some pin-pointing, it seem to be coming from the rear mirror.

Following the HATTRX's video - I removed the trim pieces. As you can hear from the first video, when shaking it, the two clips produce the rattle sound.

The fix was to apply some lubricants to the clips. I used some keyboard lubs with a brush, but I think any thick lub would work. While at it, I added some sound deadening materials, but I don't think that's necessary.

After the lub, shaking it no longer rattles.

It is a relatively easy fix. Test drove and no longer hear anything.

Mine come from the housing that hold the mirror to the windshield

So if I'm understanding the root cause, the white/yellow plastic clip (that locks the cover to the ceiling) rattles on the cover?

I'm guessing the lube should have some viscosity to dampen movement. I'm curious if this will flow out after some hot days?

Yeah. I wonder if just tightening the clips (like maybe shimming it) would be a more permanent/effective fix.

The polypropylene black plastic is notoriously brittle. I had a similar thought but it would have to be something like slipping duct tape under, or even something flexible like a dab of flexible sealant or rubber cement. Too stiff and you won't be able to get the cover off without breaking.

I did everything in the HATTRK video last week and noticed those 2 clips rattling aswell as i was applying all the sound dampening materials.

Instead of using lubricant like you did, i just added a tiny amount of superglue to the bottom corner of each clip to keep it in place.

Eliminated all rattling when shaking that piece by hand, and when driving once i got it back installed.

I even removed the unit a few days after just to make sure it wasnt impossible to remove, and it came out just fine. clips were still glued together.

Heat is definitely an concern. I used some pretty viscus lub. That rear mirror area can get pretty hot just from the honda sensing camera. We will see how it goes - might need fix it again in the Summer.

Seems like maybe you could just use some stick-on felt pads in strategic places to help take up the looseness between the mirror housings? I’m not sure.
