Yes, they did. I didn't film anything with the incorrect fix.i think they got it fixed
mine got stiffer for a couple days then just went back to normal. maybe the battery was low. i've never actually experienced it "sticking". steering just got really stiff when they replaced the original rack at 18k miles. at 37k now.My sticky steering has stopped recently on its own. Guess the spring loosened over time. Haven't done the repair yet. Enjoying the crisp, smooth steering again in the meantime.
Glad you got it all straightened out, dude. Here's my update: Got a call from Honda Altoona last Thursday night saying that because they don't have kits, they can't re-do my car on Friday 12/20. Talked to my service manager and he said let's at least bring it in to check over the work that had been already done. They told me that the higher end civics (Type R, SI, EX-L) have a different kit than the lower end (LX).
Bring it in, and another service manager did some research. She said that they have reports with others having the same issue as mine. Said the "lash tension" wasn't done properly on some and it caused the issue I was having. I'm guessing they were speaking of the lash tension on the return spring.
When I got back, they had just gotten back with the car after a test drive. I went on one with the service manager handling my car and it was night and day difference. Asked them what they did, and he told me they installed a new kit. Didn't really tell me if they put the incorrect one the previous week (my guess, that was the issue) but either way it was night and day.
Another interesting question, why did they tell me that they were out of kits for the worm gear recall? Hmm. Either way, it's now fixed.
I agree with you. I'm guessing that they just didn't do it correctly. They did admit that they had a more senior technician perform the repair this time. But no, they didn't offer anything. I'll be most likely making any future appointments with Smart Honda of Des Moines. The problem there is that Smart Honda services all of the Des Moines area. Difficult to get in.Glad you got it all straightened out, dude.

But ugh…I HATE when service advisors / managers just make shit up! The LX doesn’t have a different repair kit. They all use the same kit, per Honda Corp’s official TSB! This is why they didn’t tell you (later) that the kit they originally put in your car was the wrong one. There is no wrong one. It was just a poor installation of the right one! Telling you they didn’t have kits available, but actually did? That’s pretty simple : Either A) The person you talked to didn’t know what they were talking about, so they made shit up. B) Told you that parts aren’t available in order to get you off their backs for awhile. C) Both A and B.
Sorry, but this type of service doesn’t build a sense of trust nor professionalism. They should’ve told you the truth. Mistakes happen. It’s how mistakes are handled that matters! It should start by being honest. After all that they should’ve offered you something for the inconvenience (like a free oil change or SOMETHING). I’m sure you had better things to do than call them and spend more time in their waiting room. Did they offer you anything? If not, this tells me they don’t value your time nor your business.
Needless to say, I’d look to take the car elsewhere for future service (if possible).
They should’ve had a senior tech work on it the first time. My (small town) Honda dealership has 2 master techs. They told me that anything beyond basic maintenance, that only their master techs work on Type R’s ; Indeed a master tech did my worm gear recall. Wherever you take your car, you can ask that a master tech or at least a senior tech work on it. If they do a good job, request that same tech every time. Think of it as taking the car to the doctor. The tech will become familiar with you and your car over time…which is (usually) a good thing!I agree with you. Difficult to get in.
My wife hasn't even sat in my car since I bought in April.
my parents wanted me to give them a ride over the holidays to "show it off" and my mom thought i was going to flip the car when taking a gentle u-turn...lmao. couldn't even go over 3k rpm without her freaking out.kinda weird bud but ok
When I had my FK8 she kicked the side skirt with her heal and scratched it. She denied it and told me I must have done it. Welcome to my wife. Hence, I have yet to offer to take her out in my FL5.kinda weird bud but ok
It’s probable that your replacement rack was manufactured after those that had the defect.i had the rack replaced a while back and still feels great. wonder if they tested the recall fix on the replacement racks.
they replaced it with 53620-T38-A13...supposedly. at least that's the number on the paperwork. It’s probable that your replacement rack was manufactured after those that had the defect.
