Worm Gear Recall Fix Reviews

I thought maybe it had to do with new grease needing moved around. The trip back to my house from the dealer is around 25 mins and I kept working the steering to see if it improved. Never did. I'm wondering if there is a different return spring for the Type R that needed to be used instead of maybe the typical civic. Our steering most likely has different assist rate considering the changes suspension and much larger tires, but I'm guessing at this point.

No. No special spring that I’m aware of. I took my car in for an oil change and they just happened to have kits on-hand. My dealership is small and wouldn’t coincidentally have specialized parts in inventory.

The TSB has a different part number for the Type R kit.

And my service manager just called me right after this was posted. I told him to please look into this since, as I thought, there is a different part number for the Type R. I appreciate all whom have responded to this. It seems that we have to do their job for them.

I am wrong. I read over the TSB again. The same part is used for all repairs. It is in the TSB.

I just had the recall fix on my Sport Touring this morning after being on a waitlist for 2 months. While I was there I test drove a Type R for fun, steering felt similar to my Sport Touring after the fix.

Here's my update: Got a call from Honda Altoona last Thursday night saying that because they don't have kits, they can't re-do my car on Friday 12/20. Talked to my service manager and he said let's at least bring it in to check over the work that had been already done. They told me that the higher end civics (Type R, SI, EX-L) have a different kit than the lower end (LX).

Bring it in, and another service manager did some research. She said that they have reports with others having the same issue as mine. Said the "lash tension" wasn't done properly on some and it caused the issue I was having. I'm guessing they were speaking of the lash tension on the return spring.

When I got back, they had just gotten back with the car after a test drive. I went on one with the service manager handling my car and it was night and day difference. Asked them what they did, and he told me they installed a new kit. Didn't really tell me if they put the incorrect one the previous week (my guess, that was the issue) but either way it was night and day.

Another interesting question, why did they tell me that they were out of kits for the worm gear recall? Hmm. Either way, it's now fixed.

From what my service advisor buddy told me, they only get a few at a time and will allocate them to people that have scheduled appointments for the fix.

So either they just happened to receive new ones while you were there, pulled it from someone that had/were going to have an appointment, or they were full of shit.

Glad its at least fixed to where you're satisfied.

Hi. I just got the worm gear recall performed on my 2024 type r. As soon as I drove away I noticed a big difference in steering. When I now turn the wheel while driving the steering wheel does not return to center. If I let the steering wheel go in the middle of a turn the wheel will stay turned and keep turning. I returned to Honda to tell them about it and the said it was installed correctly. I don’t know if it is because of a weaker return spring or if it was performed incorrectly. Looking for input from those who had it done. Feels completely different and not right.

Are you able to constantly replicate this? A video would do wonders
