When the ESP was tested on track by Porsche, was it strictly for their viscosity they use or does the testing apply to all ESP viscosity?
strictly 0w40 is my understanding the viscosity is part of the spec A40/C40.

Curious about Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

I used 5w-30 Ultra Platinum in my 07 FA5 after reading that it is "better" (long time ago, so I do not recall details as to what/why "better" and I believe that it was for general daily driving, not track) than Mobil 1

and similarly, have been using Fram Synthetic filter (again, over Mobil 1)

btw, current Honda OEM filter is a lower grade Fram (TG if I recall correctly)
I tried ordering some Honda oil filters that are made in Japan and they sent the ones made in USA because superseded. I’m using a spoon filter right now just to help capture some of the metals during the wear in period.

Im not really sure what goes into the Porsche Certifications, but the Mobil ESP comes in other viscosities, the Porsche C30 rating is for 5W30, Porsche C40, is 0W40. The Porsche C40 rating is for Porsche vehicles that uses a 40 weight oil.

Dont know about the 0W20 and 0W30 ratings. It can get confusing though because Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40 X4 has the Porsche C40 certification and was rated for use in the GT cars, but after a year or so Mobil-1 developed a new oil called Mobil C40 GT which is specific for the Porsche GT cars now.

I haven't looked into the difference between Mobil 1 ESP OW40 X4 and Mobil 1 C40 GT 0W40 but I imagine the C40 GT has more protection for internal wear. I could definitely do a blank oil analysis of both and see what the differences are. I would say that both are probably overkill for street use.

And EU has longer drain intervals. Which does mean a better base oil to start with.

I'll check out the 0W40 too thanks for the heads up. I was just happy to see my Walmart getting the ESP 5w30, had only been 0w30 for a few months.
Mobil 1 also has stuff to prevent LSPI which can happen to our engines. Mobile 1 claims that they have a formula to prevent this or at least mitigate it. I dont know enough about what all of the stuff on an oil analysis means

The MB and BMW LL01 specs both help prevent it I believe. So again, the Euro specs seem to be more geared towards our car (DI Turbo 4) than some other specs..

The Mobil-1 ESP 0W20 is also Porsche and MB certified so that must be decent oil for anyone looking to stick to the lower viscosity:

Porsche C20 Oil Spec
In the USA the Porsche C20 oil specification began seeing use in Porsche engines in 2019. Currently, this oil formulation is primarily used in small displacement Porsche inline turbocharged 2.0-liter 4 cylinder and turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engines from 2019 onward. Many of these engines are used in Porsche SUV and sedan models. This is a Mid-SAPS additive (Mid Sulphated Ash Phosphorus Sulfur) level formulation, suitable for extended oil change intervals, reducing fuel consumption, reducing engine emissions, and should have a minimum high-temperature high shear viscosity HTHS of 2.6 - 2.9 mPa*s, and a minimum TBN of 6.0. The Porsche C20 oil specification will typically correspond to the ACEA C5 oil specification and 0W-20 viscosity.

check calcium levels / should be within LSPI API SP levels - try not to exceed ~1500 ppm - I can see it’s an API SL oil

One thing I realized is that you don’t go down the rabbit hole when it comes to reading up on oil. You enter a different dimension beyond this world. Now I’m going back and forth with using Honda Ultimate or M1 ESP o_O
I guess both are great options and I don't plan to go past 3000 mile intervals.

Literally any synthetic will work at 3k miles oci.

more from the same guy: ENGINEER EXPLAINS HOW OFTEN TO CHANGE OIL & FILTER // UPDATED CRITERIA-BASED RECOMMENDATIONS!

short summary for "criteria A for people who wants to keep their car for 10-20 250K miles or longer"

David emphasizes that oil changes are primarily needed to remove contaminants that accumulate in the oil, rather than solely because the oil loses its lubricating ability.

He adds that using synthetic oil can extend these intervals by about 1,000 miles, though he cautions against pushing it much further due to contamination risks.

David recommends changing the oil and filter every 3,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first.

Mobil 1 oils are good at shearing out of grade so if that's something you want then it's a great option.
