Its better because it extends the service interval. Dont really know about the chemistry or logic behind it yet but the consensus is that its not good really good for modern turbo GDI engines because it increases fuel dilution. It probably incresses it beyond the acceptable 2% range. GDI and turbo engines are sensitive to fuel dilution already.

Blackstone uses flashpoint to determine fuel dilution but other Labs use gas chromatography and another technique that gives you an actual number. I haven't looked into why but I imagine it could be a cost thing.

But knowing if fuel dilution is happening with your oil is good to know because fuel dilution lowers the viscosity of oil and can drop it from cSt Viscosity from 9 to something like 6 (I honestly wouldn't be suprised if thats why the cSt values dropped that low with guy who likes to track with Honda Ultimate)

It can be controversial because some people just ignore it and their engines are fine. Because its not going to cause a immediate failure. Its more of a slow long term damage and right place right time will cause a failure or something to break.

I guess its like microplastics or some other shit chemical in our food thats linked to cancer lol. People smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol, and they dont have any health problems or any respiratory diseases and theb theres people like me who never smoked a cigarette in his life that has lung disease lol.

I'm in iowa and I'll be using 5-30 from April until October. I may switch to 0-20 if I decide to drive it over the winters.
Probably just a mobile 5-30. I'm going to change it at 1000 miles which is here soon. Probably next week.

5w30 esp. Or 0w30 if you can't find 5w30. Good specs. Easy to get at Walmart.

Does it need to be ESP, isn't that the high mileage oil? What 0w30 do you recommend? I may go that route so I can just stick year round with same oil.

Esp has good viscosity and fuel dilusion protection. I'd pick M1 esp in either 0w30 or 5w30.

Oh and don't confuse ESP with EP. 2 different oils.
I also read the Mobil and Castrol EP is good oil. The viscosity is a bit more on the thicker side.

Same, alot of people recommend Mobil 1 ESP because its specifically designed for modern engines DI with particulate filters and emission systems.

The Calcium and Mg is low to reduce stuff like fuel dilution and carbon buildup. Seems like its really good for any turbo I4 modern engine.

If I’m not mistaken the ESP is the Euro formula? It makes sense because most Euro turbo cars started DI back in 2006 or so.

Its rated for some European cars espically since it has the Porsche certifications which means that it was track tested. The Mobil 1 ESP 0W40 X4 looks very promising from the information I've seen on BobtheOilGuy. It seems like alot of people over there recommend that oil or the 5W30ESP for modern DI Turbo I4s

But I think it is, since most EU cars have way more restrictive emissions systems like what you said.

And EU has longer drain intervals. Which does mean a better base oil to start with.

I'll check out the 0W40 too thanks for the heads up. I was just happy to see my Walmart getting the ESP 5w30, had only been 0w30 for a few months.

When the ESP was tested on track by Porsche, was it strictly for their viscosity they use or does the testing apply to all ESP viscosity?

Curious about Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

I used 5w-30 Ultra Platinum in my 07 FA5 after reading that it is "better" (long time ago, so I do not recall details as to what/why "better" and I believe that it was for general daily driving, not track) than Mobil 1

and similarly, have been using Fram Synthetic filter (again, over Mobil 1)

btw, current Honda OEM filter is a lower grade Fram (TG if I recall correctly)
