FL5 recall (2022-2025 Civic Steering Gearbox Assembly)

Hey guys new here to the FL5, Ive owned several honda and still own (itr,s2k etc) i recently picked up a fl5 over the weekend but wasnt allowed to take it home due to the recall, i too am skeptical but nothing I could do. They did have another type R in the showroom and i asked if they could do the work on that car first and then mine. (They agreed but who knows if they did or not) the car will be ready tomorrow so I will keep you guys updated.
side note: they had a stop recall on a few cars, my gf picked up a 2025 hrv while i picked up the fl5 and both cars had stop recall but they let her drive the car home… i assume its cause its a type R and would be driven more aggressively compared to other models

Where are you located? My Type R has been sitting at the dealer since Tuesday with no word on when they will get parts in.

She probably signed paperwork before stop sale went through.

It's a tad involved in my opinion. I've dropped the subfame on a 10th gen a few times. The 11th gen will follow suit.

Negative, we made to sure to do my paperwork first, so we can bring down the markup, basically we told them if mine doesnt go through, she wont get a car. So i know 100% it was done after mine and they told me i couldnt talk to car home, then they started her paper work and when they came back they said good news you can take the hrv home today… i was pretty salty lol, i told them id drive the car home and drive it back later, and id be within a set agreed mileage limit, but yeah… regardless will keep you guys all posted tomorrow

So what am I supposed to be on the look out for? That way i can try to pay attention to whatever i need to on the drive home. Noise? If left and right turning radius is same? Quality of work? Should i jack up the car and inspect underneath?

If they're doing an alignment, tell them up-front that you want a copy of the alignment sheet so you can ensure it's aligned to factory specs. This is pretty simple and there's no need to go asking Google if your car needs a wheel alignment.

The dealer may not wish to share this document for ;
1- Protect themselves, the less said the better.
2- And since the customer doesn't pay for this work........

A bit sad to see some of the sentiments towards technicians as well, but I get caught in that same trap when I think of what machine shops I'd like to use. I want the old timer doing my machining work because he's learned through failure. The young guys that work in the shops now haven't "failed forward" yet, and many of them are still uncertain of their final profession. We are in yet another generational shift where those with the most experience are headed toward retirement and leaving the younger generation to figure it out.

I also see some saying that they essentially want/expect concierge service and extreme personal care and attention to their car, but I'd be willing to bet that nobody here wants to open their pocket to satisfy what something like that would cost. Technicians should be paid salary. The current flat rate system forces them to get jobs done quickly so that they can move on to the next so that they, like you, can go home and provide for their families.

The good news with this recall is that it's not just going to be handed off to a "lube tech". These recalls will be performed by A and B level technicians, and I think that requesting the top tech is certainly in the realm of a reasonable request.

The good news with this recall is that it's not just going to be handed off to a "lube tech". These recalls will be performed by A and B level technicians, and I think that requesting the top tech is certainly in the realm of a reasonable request.

I wish I had your confidence, but how can you be sure? There are a lot of isolated dealerships in very small towns that probably won't have these skilled mechanics,

Recalls tend to have guild level requirements. So there is specific factory training required in order to perform particular recalls. A simple software update can be handed off to just about anyone since its usually only an online test that the technician can complete in a few minutes to be "certified". A recall like this is more prone to have requirements for technicians that have attended an instructor lead steering and suspension course, and have been familiarized with the factory systems that Honda employs. The manufacturer reserves the right not to pay the warranty claim if a technician without the required training performs the campaign.
