Also, to me the 19" wheels and tires don't look right. To me the wheels look too big and the tires look too small... and they are. I can feel that they are the wrong size when I drive, even in Comfort mode.
Wait until you see the fk8 with its 20" wheels!

I feel you about getting more sidewall and liking a smaller tire.

There are a lot of pics of 18" combos in this thread that might give you some ideas about what to run. https://www.civicxi.com/forum/threa...d-for-11th-gen-fl5-civic-type-r.50859/page-16

I'll likely go in the opposite direction as you and lower but end up on an 18" with more sidewall for some wheel protection, possibly less weight, and I like the overall look also.
Hi Superhatch, thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Hey Cueyo.
Yeah, I've seen the FK8 on OEM 20" wheels. 🤮
There is all kinda ish about the FK8 that is much more uglier than a mofo.

I call it the F(uc)k8 , because the looks are completely F(uc)Ked.

I probably pissed off a few people on the forum, whoops!

All good. Buy what you like, drive what you like.
To each his own.

I believe they explicitly made the 19" wheels on the FL5 larger looking too, remember reading an article about how they are smaller but look just as big because the wheel goes over the tire.

Personally I'm a fan of the OEM look of the type R, I think once it gets under 18" it starts to look funny

Hmmm...
In that case, maybe it's time to try out some 17 x 12s on 30" Mickey Thompsons.

I was kinda wondering the same myself...

would keeping the 19 wheels and using 275/35-R19 work on the Type R?

the 275 is about the same overall diameter as OP proposed 265/40-R18, 26.3 vs 26.6 (both are taller than the OEM 25.3")

side wall will increase from 3.1" on OEM to 3.8" for the 275/35-R19 vs 4.2" on the 265/40-R18

note that in order to get about the same overall size as OEM on 18" wheel would require 235/40-R18 which has the same sidewall as the 275/35-R19

275/35/19 works fine on stock wheels/suspension.

18s are fine, but with taller sidewall and narrower wheels you may have more unfavorable deflection, not only contributing to rubbing but the steering response and cornering stability may become vague.

This is all too long for me to read

Car rides fine on 18inch wheels in comfort suspension mode. Stock everything.

You dont need more clearance. I go over 20 speedbumps a day. Everyday on my 3 hour commute

255/40-18 on 18x9.5. 255 is just slightly stretched on a 9.5, so the steering response is fantastic and it feels like a narrower tire (no steering slop, if you know what I mean). Vagueness often comes from wide tires on too narrow rims, so this doesn't have that problem. The tire has a 9 mm greater radius, so the car is 0.35 inch or 9 mm higher off the ground and I can get in my driveway now without scraping.

Also in terms of outright grip in corners, wheel width often matters more than tire width, so you're not really giving up grip compared to 265. I have RE-71RS.

The ride won't get better with tires, well, at least not very noticeably. You need the Acura damper module for that.

There's a reddit saying weld drag 17" wheels can clear the brakes on an fk8, so I'm guessing they'd clear the fl5 brakes too. You could get some sidewall like it's 1988.
