On my previous sport hatch I was a bit of a mod-maniac, but with the type R I want to only do mods that will help with stuff like maintenance. Right now I'm considering some pinch weld pucks to prevent damage (my last car had them get all creased up), a mesh for the side vents to prevent rocks, and maybe a cooling plate since there's nothing bad about reducing temperatures.

Any other suggestions?

Pela 650 Oil Extractor makes oil changes quick, clean and easy. I’ve been using mine for over 20 years where it has saved me a lot of time and money.

I've seen a couple people on the forum run RokBlokz splash/mud guards on their FL5 and it includes the mesh rock guard. I use their 11th Gen splash guards on my Sport Touring. I like theirs better since the guards seem a bit more sturdy and aren't flimsy like others.

I use Fumoto valves in all my vehicles, just attach a hose or drain the oil directly into a container. Works great in my BRZ where the oil filter is top-mounted so no drain pan needed. You'll still have to use a drain pan for a bottom-mounted filter, though.

Not maintenance-related, but if you have to use a remote for your garage/gate then I would highly recommend the Homelink mirror.

@JDM_DOHC_SiR has a great thread about it here: https://www.civicxi.com/forum/threads/plug-and-play-homelink-mirror-for-fl5-1-hr-install.51749/

Homelink mirror (if you want a garage door opener built in)

Badannlv skid plate. (It has doors for the oil drain plug and oil filter, so you don’t have to remove the whole plate to do an oil change)

Megachip just came out with some rock guards that look good

Verus engineering makes a good solid lift point puck that stays on car to protect the pinch weld.

I also just added a Fumoto drain valve for the drain plug. (First time using one, so still developing an opinion on it)

Maybe I’m wrong and misunderstood, but I read somewhere that the Homelink mirror isn’t quite a 1:1 fit to the Type-R’s mirror bracket…or something along those lines? Is that true? I wanted one until I read that.

I have not had any fitment issues. Are the fitment issues described as the window mount feeling "loose"? The only way I can think of that happening is maybe not all the brackets are mating properly to the camera when trying to twist it back into place.

The Homelink mirror is as secure as the OEM mirror in my opinion; no loose feeling or rattling.

Yes! Jogging my memory, that sounds correct. Someone was complaining that the mirror fit was loose and blamed it on the parts not being an exact fit…which I thought was strange. Sounds like a case of user error.
