Could have also put it into AI call optionsI keep track of everything in an Excel sheet, which might not be the best idea—it just reminds me that I could have put this money into the S&P 500 or Bitcoin and possibly tripled it. But at the end of the day, I want to enjoy life while my body still allows it.
The total cost of my rolling modifications is $45,800, covering all maintenance and expensive track tires (excluding track day fees and insurance).
I did consider two other options: a used modded GT4 from a friend for $120K or a brand new M2. However, both would have come with higher insurance and maintenance costs, and their reliability was less certain compared to the Type R. Sometimes, I wonder if the GT4 might have been a more cost-effective choice in the long run, but I ultimately went with the Honda, prioritizing longevity, affordability, and practicality. With four doors and enough space for luggage, I can take it on long trips without worry. Plus, if I ever crash the Type R, it wouldn’t hurt nearly as much as wrecking a $120K used GT4.
I'm still estimating another $10K in upgrades for the Type R, including a fuel system upgrade, flex-fuel setup, tune, and an upgraded turbo. I also need to set aside an extra $10K for a forged engine rebuild—just in case the stock engine decides to call it quits.
