The type r I just bought is my first white car, and holy hell does it get dirty, specifically the area right under the wing near the trunk handle . First day driving and it was covered in dirt and I even got a pinpoint paint chip in that spot.

How does everyone else keep up with maintaining their FL5s appearance? I plan on getting ppf in the spots near the vents, hood and grille (and that nasty spot I mentioned earlier), but how do you guys clean the car? power washers? Hand washing? Any particular products?

Wrong question. Theres literally no way to keep it clean lol. The question should be how do you clean it 😅

I fell into the detailing and car cleaning trap a few years ago but after spending hours cleaning my car sweating my ass off in the sun on my days off I honestly stopped caring. I pay someone to detail my car every 3/4 months.

Its not fun or enjoyable cleaning my car anymore, it is just another chore I have that I'd rather pay someone to deal with for the inconvenience.

i have a back Si which is nearly impossible to keep clean. i just wax it as often as i can. i use very durable waxes like Collinite 845. i was using ceramic coatings but I think this stuff is a lot easier to use and looks better.

I can't help but feel my old black sport hatch was easier to keep looking nice, the black hid so many imperfections.

I'm also veering away from a ceramic coat, need more rock chip protection, not less water on the car.

Completely understandable, my old sport hatch was cleaned at a car wash twice a week, unfortunately I don't think getting a million scratches is worth it on the type R. I get the feeling I'm gonna fall into the trap very soon...

the black always looks great at night or when it's wet....but in direct sunlight you can see every imperfection. i think white looks better in the sun since it reflects all the light.

Can fully agree there, the white is near perfect in the sun.

P&S beadmaker! Works really well on white. When I was still daily driving I could drive for days in the rain and when it dried the car looked like it was just washed. Nothing sticks to the surface when you use P&S beadmaker.

Been there man. For the first year I had my FK8, I drove it daily. It was impossible to keep it clean here in Upstate NY. I would spend hours washing it and the next day it was dirty again. I just have to accept that my current daily is never going to be clean for long.

I'm very close to Albany.
Nice, finally met someone near me on a forum lol. Yeah that storm last night made my white type r look like piss yellow with all the dirt it tracked in.

How's the Corolla holding up? I've only ever seen 2 GR Corollas driving down route 50, that seems to be where all the car stuff happens around here, near highline motorsports.
