You do not need to replace anything when using the manual method. All original hardware gets reused

Having some issues!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I bought the md808pro specifically for the rear brakes on my fl5 got the scanner for 220 shipping included works great to put into maintenance mode and back into normal and free updates for life

Why can't someone just turn the piston to retract it back into the caliper?

@svvitch it can break the worm gears or electric motor if you did that. You still have to turn the piston to retract it back into the caliper but you have to either remove or retract the electronic bits first.

This is not the best image but kind of shows you whats going on and the things you could break.

Manual method is the way to go IMO, I've already done it twice. It adds like 2 extra minutes to the job. Not worth getting the scanner just for this unless you need/want it for other things too.
This is now how I feel - I was able to turn the EPB by hand because I couldnt find the external 11mm. I have now lol.

Thanks for the diagram. I don't normally set the ebrake when I do this I will need to check into the manual process 👍

Sorry I'm smooth brain, will maintenance mode automatically retract the caliper?
It retracts the EPB which lets you then manually push the piston back in.

So last time I did mine I just used a brake caliper kit from amazon 20 dollars and did it manual way with out removing the motor or anything . I had no problems so far doing it that way.

I did mine the manual way. Rear pads were pretty much finished at 33k. Fronts still had like 20k miles left but ended up changing all pads for ceramics instead.

Also if you guys don’t have a E11 torx, you can use a 9mm hex socket to spin the spindle before compressing the piston.
