Installation took about an hour, though I was mostly taking my time.

Parts of what I received feel like it was an early sample - the drill holes for the K&N click-in badge on the airbox aren't lined up properly, so the badge is slightly off-center, the holes for the air filter mount weren't cleaned up, and needed a little razor trimming to get the screws through. Also, my kit did not include the rubber gasket to line the top of the box - I've requested this from K&N. Historically, even if I lose a part on my own, they will overnight a replacement part with little issue. On my last car, they sent me a handful of screws and washers when I lost one screw! Very good customer service. Hope to see the same here.

The instructions didn't advise how to squeeze the air tube into the rubber tubing, but it'll go in with a little force—do this before mounting the MAF sensor. To get the filter into the airbox, mount the filter to the bracket, then mount the bracket to the airbox. The air filter mount and filter should go in last, which will simplify both of these issues.

You'll want to wipe down the whole thing with alcohol and lint-free towels. Every part was finely glazed in a layer of oil. Otherwise, the filter will slip off the mount, and dust will stick to everything.

As far as performance? So far, the butt dyno and my ear dyno are approving of the experience. My acceleration in first gear introduced a lot of wheel hop, so the low-speed performance was improved. There's less drag when leaving it in gear on deceleration. Acceleration is improved across the power band - and I didn't think it could be more smooth.

The sound is pretty much perfect. It'll sound like stock until you goose it, where you'll hear some intake engine growl and wastegate dumping on hard acceleration. Ssssttuuuu.

So, 4 out of 5 stars, because it does exactly what I wanted, but loses a star for issues with oil, build quality, and missing a non-critical component.

Have you noticed any differences in intake temperature?
Honestly, not really. They're not better, but they're not worse. It cools off faster at speed, but heat soak while idling is the same. I'm still missing the rubber gasket to "seal" it to the hood, and I plan to wrap the pipe and air box. I'm also in Texas with a black car—100F ambient, 120F IAT at speed, 138F IAT at max heat saturation during red lights.

I would imagine at speed, these "open" boxes work just fine with IAT but someone with better experience can probably chime in.

I have the PRL and I'm low key dreading when I have to clean the cone because there's no good access point apart from disassembling it. The K&N looks like you have easy access which is very nice.

I'm mentally prepared to just take the ECU off since I don't want to mess with fitting the rubber tubes again.

What is the reason you chose this instead of PRL HVI?
