I have a question for those who've had body work done. I'm having my front bumper refinished after some road debris scraped it a bit. I found a good shop to do the work, but almost all the shops tend to include a "post-repair scan" in their estimates. They told me it's to recalibrate the radar sensor and make sure nothing's amiss.

Considering that people take off and put back their bumper/grill assemblies all the time without issue, I'm highly skeptical this is actually necessary. There's absolutely no structural damage to the car. Would it be fine if I skip this procedure? It's $176.

I highly doubt you need it. I've had my front bumper off to install the intercooler without one.

I was also rear-ended at a stop light where the other person was in an Escalade. They hit me at like 4-5mph, not enough to deploy the airbags. The body shop did the scan but I drove the car about a month prior and everything was working fine. Highly doubt I needed the scan even with the collision.

Yes, skip it. I've had the bumper off as weIl and no issues. I think the question becomes: Will they require it if they perform the work? If so, find another body shop.

Thanks all, this is good to know.

The shop that I'm leaning toward said during the estimate I could opt to skip it because it might not be needed.
