I did a canyon run today and nearly ran out of gas on the way back down the canyon. The car rapidly consumes gas, even when you're going downhill when in R mode. I found the estimated range was WAYYYY off along with the MPG. At the end at the top I had 80 mile range left indicated while the way back was about 20 miles but 10 miles on the way down it then showed about 25 mile range left. I had to try and coast as much as possible in neutral just to get my ass to the gas station at the bottom of the canyon. This is all while keeping the car at most 4000 to 4500 rpms as Im still in break-in period so it was quite a shock to see it consume so much gas.

Anyone else experience or notice this?

A safer estimate of remaining range when running low on fuel is to use the low fuel light indicator. It lights up when there's ~1.8 gallons left in the tank and you can base your actual remaining range from there.

I would also not suggest coasting in neutral.

Yeah the light turned on when I had another 4 miles left to get to the gas station. It kinda sucks if I have to rely on an indicator that lights up when I'm just about to go empty.

My range estimates were way off for the first 1k miles (400 miles on a full tank), after that the computer started adapting to my real world mpg and giving me a more realistic estimate (275 miles when full). With a 12.5 gallon this car doesn’t have much range when it’s on boost constantly.

While Distance-to-Empty and fuel economy calculations on the car may adjust to your driving, they are never 100 percent accurate from my experience, especially in high loads.

On some cars you can change the sample rate with a scan tool to get DTE and fuel economy readings closer to your driving. I expect the on-car reading to be at least 5-13 percent better than actual on normal driving (the gas pump is also another variable).

Man, the 11th gen Si folks are reporting MPGs in the 40s. I rarely see 30+ on my trip calculator.

Not sure you are going to see 40+ on the Type R.

The Type R has a higher rolling resistance with its larger wheels. More aero drag with the extra downforce. The engine displacement is larger, increasing pumping losses and its also running a lower compression ratio.

I bought an SAE paper for the K20c1 a while back that had a BSFC plot and calculated the fuel econ for steady state driving in each gear. There are a couple places that you can get over 40, but wouldn’t expect in daily driving.

You can also look at histograms on fuelly.com. I’m attaching pics of the 23 and 24 Type R’s in this post.

Excel plot is mph vs US mpg

So did my 10th gen Si. I blew by a F150 once that tried to race and I yelled out the window "And I'm still getting over 30 miles to the gallon" lol

My FL5's best average is 26.5

I've found the drive mode has no effect on gas mileage if driven conservatively.
Unfortunately, 315 hp gulps fuel when called on.
Same here. The mode has no impact on fuel consumption given the same throttle angle (different from throttle pedal input as this changes with each mode).

Owned an 11th Gen Si for a year and averaged 34.5 mpg with a lot of city driving. Traded into an FL5 and after a year am averaging 22.5 mpg.

When you are getting on it the fuel lights take forever to update, its a bit concerning. Almost got me on track because it looks fine and then all of a sudden it drops a ton. I have parked after a session and looks almost full, when I get back to the car for the next session its less than half. Now I just fill it up every session or 2. This only when you are getting on it, mpg on track is probably like 14 if that much
