Haha thanks all for your feedback, it's all very helpful. Sorry for being so obsessive about it šŸ˜…

Agree with @Clark_Kent. Just follow the guidance in the manual. It’s rather vague because there’s really no reason to be more specific about it. Simple as that!šŸ˜‰

Regarding oil temps : Mine hover in the low/mid 190’s under normal conditions while driving (of course ambient temps will affect it a little bit). If I were to let it sit and idle to warm up, it’d be ~185. I’ve seen the oil get up to 210 with some spirited highway driving. Not sure if all this is normal, but I’m not experiencing any issues.

Regarding the calculated oil temp : It is apparently quite accurate. Someone here on this forum, who tracks their car, compared the calculated oil temp with a gauge he temporarily installed. He said the calculated oil temp was pretty spot-on (give or take a couple of degrees maybe). In conclusion, the calculated oil temp is accurate enough for all intents and purposes, as we would expect from a Honda performance car.

These cars can handle a lot. If not, you would be reading about blow engines all over the forums. I drove my car for the first 600 miles varying my pulls. Never accelerating overly hard or even getting near redline. With that said, as my miles got closer to 600 I would go over 4k rpms a few times and accelerate more aggressively.

I see people passionately debate the first oil change at 500 miles but I just don't understand that. The logic makes sense on a rebuild I guess, but If Honda really wanted their customers to do that wouldn't they just state it in the owners manual? Heck, most dealerships offer free lifetime oil changes too, but never mention this aspect during the sale. :dunno:

I'm proud of y'all for having the patience to baby your car up to the "break-in" mileage limit. My car saw 7k rpm as soon as I got on the acceleration lane to join the highway. 23k miles, 5 oil changes and a Blackstone lab test later, she running great with no abnormalities in the oil. Oil change #6 she gets switched to 5W-30 Red Line Synthetic.

Doing proper break-in doesn't hurt anything but the evidence to prove it makes the engine behave better or last longer is non-existent. Proper maintenance and consistent oil changes will do way more for the life of your car than break-in.
