Did my tint installer melt the hatch trim or do they all look like this?

I got my windows tinted and when cleaning the rear window the trim is missing texture in some areas. Does the trim on all FL5s look like this or did they accidentally melt it when installing the tint? It’s obviously not a big deal but if I’m paying close to $50k for a car they’ll replace it.

Mine looks the same. Trim appears smoother near injection molding features. Not anything concerning to me.

Window tint is normally applied wet at room temperature, unlike paint wraps.

What a butchery of a job. I'm flabbergasted at the incompetence of the person who did the work. You should take it back and demand they fix it. Just bring your phone and post it on youtube then drop the link .

You’re sort of on track here regarding injection molding. I’ll explain :

The texture is less prominent where there is a steeper draft angle in the mold. This is to help release the part and prevent it from sticking (in the mold). The primary, esthetic, face of the panel will have the best looking / most defined texture because it has very little or no draft. This is totally normal in a properly designed + manufactured part.

And yes, that’s correct regarding injection molded features like ribs and bosses on the underside of the part ; The texture may be a little smoother (on the top face) in those areas because the thicker plastic, where those features are located, took longer to cool before completely solidifying. These areas are called “sink” or “sink marks.”

I know a bit about injection molding.🤓
