I’ve posted in a couple of other forums about how the dealer put a protection product of some type on, and swirled the crap out of my paint. I won’t post that horrible picture here again. Anyway, I let them take a stab at fixing it. They had the car for three days and returned the car in passable condition. There are still some minor lines, and of course we are in pollen season, so it’s difficult to really see how they did. It does look amazing compared to the way it was delivered to me however.

I can finish what they started, but the question now is, is it this paint that easy to swirl? Or, is it just the blue really shows them easily? I really don’t want to do a full PPF. I also don’t want to deal with the constant threat of swirls.

Is a ceramic coating going to be enough or do I just need to consider PPF?

Your vehicle use case, willingness and/or ability to pay, and level of concern over paint defects will drive your decision making on this. BLUF: The only way to completely stave off swirls is full ppf on all painted surfaces and piano black trim. A ceramic coating is not impervious to microscratches in the clear coat. Anyone who tells you otherwise either hasn't been doing this long enough, or they're trying to sell you something. Even with a ceramic coated car you will still need to be mindful of proper wash technique and using the appropriate wash media and products.

Honestly I’ve had pretty good luck with FK8 and FL5 paint in terms of swirls. They probably used a dirty rag or straight up brush to do the wash

Thanks to all. @AspecR that’s kind of what I was thinking. Thanks.

@J_D I had really good luck with my FK8 paint, but the dealer didn’t screw it up before I even took delivery. I was just curious if others had experienced something different with the FL5 or the blue in particular.

@Clark_Kent I drive my car as often as I can, but I sold my 6 year old FK8 with 22k on it, so not very much and otherwise it’s in the garage. I realize it’s a car, and will get scratches. I’m not too worried about that. It’s things like the attached picture I worry about.
