I highly doubt that many N owners have got refed. There was 1 story on the media, that is certainly not the norm
But it has happened and can easily happen to anyone. And when it does there is nothing you can do and nobody is going to help you.

Because you know when it happens to so and so, it can happen to you too. Citing one incident and basing your argument off of it is absurd.

To the OP, I’m sure you will be fine with some bolt on mods.

just bought an FL5 coming to find out effectively all my mods need to be CARB certified. RIP

what do? sell car? buy supra? face same issue? move states?

not stoked
If you want to mod, keep the parts that wouldnt be "legal" in case you need to revert. If it's a small list you can knock it out in a weekend and reinstall after a bit. Just bolt-ons and tune. If that doesn't excite you, make the list smaller, and if no dice get a faster car out of the box (if you like to mod that will never stop you) or move out of state.

I love that everyone talks shit on cali but it has some of the best car culture, has some amazing tracks, amazing weather so you can drive all year long.
Exactly. The weather alone is a life-changing benefit. All the other car-specific stuff is just a huge bonus piled on top.

The only reason I haven't moved to California is the natural disasters. Anything else that people want to rage over California is going to have to do with politics... although clearly as evidenced in this thread, somehow the natural disasters get wrapped in politics too.

"you didn't already know that?"
"not sure why this is coming as a shock"

not sure why you guys have to be dickheads about it, not everyone has the financial luxury to have been invested into this as a hobby for years and years past. i just recently met my blood and sweat quota such that I have the financial freedom to be able to do things like this, so you'll have to forgive me for not knowing. rofl

as for everyone else, many very helpful replies very much appreciate the helpful information. thank you
Last I checked, research is free.

(sadly and ironically, it probably won't be for long...)

Anyway, if you've somehow survived this long without modifying your cars, I'm sure you'll figure out a way to be strong and push through life with this one. The fact that the FL5 is arguably one of the most well-engineered enthusiast cars to roll off an assembly line in the history of the world should help slightly.

There's my dickhead statement, now for my helpful one. Reach out to Cobb.

Hey, @jcm!

The modern era of modding cars is one in flux, but if you are wanting to pursue the compliant route, all of our products either have existing 50-state CARB compliance, or are in the process of 50-state compliance with a 49-state SEMA Certification. It's the reality of the direction of the industry (it's inevitable), and we've invested millions into the transition over the past 7 years. You and the others also likely already saw he formality of our EPA Consent Decree as well - it's inevitable that it comes around for everyone. You either adapt, or close up shop. We've got 25 years under our belt, and we're here for the long haul.

For Honda, as @optronix pointed out, we have a list of compliant Honda products (AP + Stage 1 calibrations) available here:
https://cobbtuning.atlassian.net/wi...16673/CARB+EO+numbers+for+COBB+Honda+Products

Outside of that, we're mighty close to finalizing our 3" Redline CF Intake System (FL5/DE5), valved catback (FL5/DE5/FK8), FMIC (FL5/DE5), and rear motor mount (FL5/DE5/FK8).

If you have any questions about your Honda, mod path, or just want to talk shop, feel free to give us a shout at 866.922.3059 // Support@COBBTuning.com // or a DM!

Depends on how risk-averse you are. Will you not tint front windows for fear of a citation?

California is the largest market for aftermarket parts. That why so many companies are headquartered here. SEMA too. Californians have been using CARB illegal mods for decades (me since the 90s). I remember going to a car meet where a guy displayed this sticker as a badge of honor! 😄

As a Californian of 40+ years, I am constantly surprised when I visit states that limit alcohol sales on Sundays, evenings, and state liquor stores. Last year I visited Utah to find alcohol over 5% is only sold at state owned liquor stores, which funds school lunches. 😲 I took a photo to show my friends in California! Here's the Google Maps location! 😆 My wife couldn't buy a glass of wine at the hotel bar without buying food because of state law requiring alcohol be sold with "meals". 🫣

Yeah, I think the Dakotas are setup similarly. I’m not sure if the liquor stores are state owned or owned by the municipalities, but it’s along those lines. It’s definitely weird the first time you encounter it.

Oh…and CARB sucks. California is too expensive and has too many natural disasters. Just adding my obligatory $.02 to the original convo.🤣

LA which is currently on fire and unable to be contained due to government incompetence?
I mean they do have one of the best firefighting forces on the continent. Not much you can do when 100 mph winds scatter embers very quickly......

Spoken by a northern neighbour who very much so wishes to remain a helpful neighbour ;)

I guess people think they're supposed to somehow magically control the weather and stop the 100 mph winds from happening. 🧙‍♂️ 😆

As someone who lives in the LA area and has friends and family on the front lines fighting the fires, the help is appreciated.

I would never do this bc i am a good role citizen, ;)

but if i wasn't you can drive with whatever mods here in cali and as long you don't get pulled over and have a dick head cop that pops your hood you will be perfectly fine until smog is required. Older cars there are ways around it but with modern car and tech its alot harder.

If you plan to install all the parts yourself than grab some beers and revert back to stock the day you need a smog, drive 100 miles or so to get ecu back ready (stock tune), and than get it tested with stock tune. (which is 7/8 years if original owner). If not tech handy than I recommend a shop to revert it back to stock for you.

If in So-Cal "Group N Garage" can typically do it in a 1 day time frame if required (depending how heavily modded you are).

Biggest mods to impact carb/smog are intake, inlet pipe, downpipe, tune, fuel, E85 kit, and turbo.
A new radiator, coolant tank, exhaust, springs, wheels, tint, brakes will not impact smog unless again a dick smog check inspector that may give you a hard time.

If really want to mod just do a carb legal tune for a bit more power, intake to easily revert offering noice, a nice exhaust and call it a day.

We've sold a few Si AccessPorts, yes. We haven't custom tuned any of those yet though. Cobb just did a 10% off sale starting on Friday and goes through the 30th. If you want custom tuning, we'll offer that old sale we offered before for you if you'd like to do it! Shoot me a message and I'll get you setup with a custom order for that sale price. If you just want the AP for now, here is the link.

If u decide to modify then keep stock parts at lease u can swap back ,right . And just pay little ticket $$...that's i thought !!
