I'm glad all of you have taken the time to share your thoughts. I was certainly one of those who saw the R and S as equal but thankfully I read these posts. The whole point behind buying a car like the R is the special factor. Otherwise, I would just stick with a BMW 340i or similar.

I'd still suggest going to drive one if you can. Each person's opinions on cars are influenced by their own unique past experiences, how much theyve invested and into what, and most importantly their nostalgias. You may very well feel the car is special and I may be chasing a feeling that can only be truly had once and I've already had my time. Who knows 🙂 take things read on the internet with a grain of salt, life's too short to worry about other's opinions

The whole point of the Type R isn't that its just more "special" its more functional. The S isn't supposed to be hardcore. Compared to both, I'd say that the S is more special, we have already seen the FK8 CTR. Now we have the Elantra N, and the GR Corolla which both directly compete with the Type R.

With the Integra Type S, we haven't seen a top trim like that here in the US since the Integra Type R, and there are really no cars that compete with it. The CT4V Blackwing is kind of similar to the ITS with it being a manual, but it costs way more and has a smaller interior.

I vaguely recall the older Integra, could you elaborate on what you think Acura should have done?
Same as the type r - verbatim with different body style, black interior (same seats as the r except leather ventilated - at current price), burbled exhaust. Yes - it may get called out as a more posh copycat of the r but it would hit the mark and yes they would all sell just as well if not better.

But the “s” used to be an “r”.

I don't follow this. How or why is the Type S more special? What do you mean by we haven't seen a top trim like that here in the US since the Integra Type R? There was an RSX Type S that ran from 2002-2006 which was a Honda Integra in other markets.

I would disagree. I don't want to get too far into this topic cause its irrelevant. Like someone else said earlier, we should be happy we have both options.

That said, the S is supposed to be more mainstream and the R is the more hardcore model for a small select audience. Plus there is only one R model, whereas there are so many S models (exclusivity). The availability of the R is quite limited compared to the S. The R is a Japan built imported model, whereas the S is built state side. The S has so many more competitors i.e. Audi S3, Golf R, etc, any mainstream sport sedan. The R has very few comparables like you noted.

I think if I had to slap a special sticker on one, it would be the R.

No one would say the NSX Type S isn’t special nor lower performing because it doesn’t have a Type R badge. In fact it’s the highest performance, modern, production vehicle Honda has ever built. The whole S vs R is all semantics and marketing. That is all. Why does this still come up in these vehicle comparison discussions? It’s silly and a waste of energy.

ITS vs CTR is like comparing two different types of apples. In most ways they’re the same. But in the details, the CTR is more crisp and refreshing, whereas the ITS is more sweet and juicy. At the end of the day they’re both great, but folks will have a greater preference one way or the other. Some may like both and get both.

I was talking about the Civic Type R and Integra Type S addressing the whole special topic, but okay. Let's move on, I'm tired of this already lol.

I was mostly making a general statement about how the letters/badges “R” vs “S” always seems to come up and how some get so hung up on it. Agree! Let’s move on. It’s dumb and not at all conducive to the actual car comparison and impressions discussion.

But man…I just can’t get behind Acura on this because it has an “S.” We know what “S” stands for, so the car just can’t be any good. Yes, this is sarcasm. 🤣
