Hi All,

I'm fairly new to the CivicXI community, and in fact, I returned to JDM from owning a brand new AP2 S2000 back in 2006, which I wish I had never sold.

Many folks have been installing the new Zestek aftermarket steering wheel in their FL5. I got inspired after watching a YT video of the Zestek install by Tegiwa. I hope you can help me troubleshoot a new unit I purchased from Tegiwa, as Zestek has not yet replied to my request.

The car is a 2024 Civic Type R now with ~500 miles.

The first picture shows the Zestek-supplied harness connected to the factory Honda OEM steering wheel plug. I rechecked this connection, ensuring it was "snapped" and not semi-connected.

The second picture shows the Zestek-supplied harness now connected to the Zestek logic board. Again, I made sure the connection was seated correctly. Also, so that you know, the two airbag plugs are connected to the bypass plugs supplied by Zestek.

The third pic is of the Zestek quick-release cable plugged into the Zestek-supplied logic board. Again, I made sure the connection was seated correctly.

Lastly, here is a video of the Zestek steering wheel plugged into the car with no lights. I know a harness exists between the Quick-Release hub and the steering unit. I also checked to ensure that it was plugged in correctly. I also made sure the screws to mount the steering unit and quick-release hub used the proper bolts so as not to impede the attachment. Based on the video, the car does not appear to know of the wheel's existence, as there are error messages related to lane assist and ACC.

The link is to the video and is 72MB

Any help from the community for those who installed the Zestek is greatly appreciated.

Did you program the wheel with the Zestek software after installing all the hardware?

I did program the wheel, and it is responsive via USB-C. The Zestek software detects the hub right away. I chose FL5 and did the configuration. I also plugged it back into the computer to ensure the configuration was saved, and it was.

Not too sure then, I helped a buddy install one on his FL5, but everything worked after programming. I would just double check the board and hub to make sure none of connectors came loose.

To close the loop on this, a new version of the board appears to be out. Tegiwa was gracious enough to send me a new board + harness.

The top is old; the bottom is new.

A big shoutout to Tegiwa and their support staff, who got back to me. A shout-out to Jacob! Also, Zestek support finally contacted me after about 1 week, and I initiated two messages via Chat, who also recommended that Tegiwa send me a new board.

Lessons learned: buy expensive stuff, install it immediately, or within the return period. I purchased the Zestek in Aug 2024 and started the installation in Jan 2025.

Glad it worked out. Do you program the horn function to a button?
