Finally an update to wrap all this up:

I went ahead and ordered a new dash and alcantara steering wheel (might as well save on shipping) and got them installed today. My wallet is a bit lighter but I'm really happy to have everything fixed. I ended up paying a little more to go with a dealer so the work would be warrantied and, amazingly, there are absolutely no dash rattles. Everything is actually quieter than it was before.

Also, that steering wheel clicking issue some of us have had? When they installed the alcantara wheel they had to remove and reseat the airbag and that completely fixed the issue. Now I just need to get some Sonax and a brush!

I now have a slightly damaged FL5 dash and OEM leather steering wheel in my garage that I'm not sure what to do with. Sell it on eBay? Junkyard?

Congratulations! Glad you were able to get this sorted out and with perfect results! Gives me confidence that it is possible do get it done without issues. I ordered the alcantara wheel myself yesterday from College Hills Honda.
