Quite a short list. Almost purchased an E36 M3, but decided to hold out and see if the FL5 would work out.

Love all the S2000s, but did it really take that long to realize it was possibly a forever car model for you!?

Impressive list, what are your top 3?
1st Place: Ariel Atom
If you can get past the crazy amount of rattles, squeaks, creaks, and vibrations (usually with hearing protection), the Atom 3 (Supercharged Honda K Motor) is automotive nirvana. Zero layers of isolation. There is just you and the road. No safety nannies, no airbags, no ABS, just a screaming engine, a great 6 speed gearbox, and an LSD. Acceleration is violent and immediate. If you are at 4K and up, the car just explodes as you hit the throttle. I cant keep up with the tach because it revs so damn fast, makes shifting at redline sometimes difficult.

I'm shocked at the extremely low center of gravity. Cornering is unlike any other car I've driven, primarily because of the extreme light weight (I think 1200 lbs?) and grippy tires (R888). Braking is scary, its sooooo easy to lock up the tires. Highway driving = huge pucker factor!! Higher speeds results in alot of steering correction, I attribute this to the short wheelbase. Speaking of steering, I LOVE not having power/electric steering. It's crazy how much the road talks to you, how much information you are missing out by having modern steering.

I can not for the life of me, hear the exhaust. But the supercharger whine raises the hairs on the back of my neck, I get goosebumps everytime I run to redline, it screams like a banshee. Combine that with the extreme acceleration, you get instant adrenaline rushes.

2nd Place: 2006 S2000
Nothing in the world beats having the top down on a warm summer day/night, listening to your favorite soundtrack with your significant other sitting in the passenger seat, VTEC screaming all the way to redline, and carving some backroad corners. I absolutely loved the stiff chassis, stiffer than any droptop or roadster I've ever driven. The transmission was magical and still is the measuring stick of every car I've ever driven. The suspension was incredible for fixed dampers on the street. It planted the car very nicely yet had enough compliance to prevent the chassis from being upset mid corner during bad undulations (def not true of earlier s2000's, in particular AP1's). The short wheelbase made directional changes and even parking, fun. I loved the HID's, they were pretty revolutionary when I owned my 2001 S2000. The driving position, seat comfort/support, HVAC controls, pedal placement, and even the distance between the steering wheel, turn signal, volume knob, and windshield wiper controls were so PERFECT. I wish I still owned my MY2006.

3rd Place: 2023 Civic Type R
No need to beat a dead horse bc we are all Type R owners but its the perfect blend of sportiness and utility. Transmission is excellent (90% of the feel of the S2000), rev matching is noticeably quicker than the FK8, seats are absolutely the best blend of comfort and support I have ever experienced (including my brothers 2018 GT3RS with carbon buckets), handling is incredibly stable (love the adaptive dampers, although my 2022 M3 seemed to settle the chassis better during mid corner and high speed bumps), and steering is immediate and has so much more feedback than the s2000. Acceleration is average at best. I wish the car had 40-50 more HP, I would not want the power to overwhelm the front wheels but there is a solution to that, Honda could have tuned the car where the HP is realized during 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears and muted during 1st and 2nd. I guess I'd rather have reliability than HP but what can you do. In terms of looks, here is where it gets extremely interesting for me. Pictures TRULY do not do this car justice. It is STUNNING in person, atleast in Boost Blue;) I'm in my 40's and I truly do not think I could own the FK8 again. It looks like too much of a tuner car (no offense to current FK8 owners). The gently curves of the FL5 at the fenders and 1/4 panels accentuate the silhouette of the roofline. It's so attractive without being over the top. And I love the fact that there is very little wheel gap. One final thing to mention is the utility as an everyday driver. Rear seats are enormous and so is the trunk. You can happily use the car to transport your family every day and still have fun when you are alone.

Honorable mention: 2021 M2 Comp
Quick summery - Changed directions very well but a bit darty at high speeds, transmission was a bit rubbery (manual), seats were extremely comfortable and offered a ton of support while driving spiritedly, brakes were very strong, and acceleration was very good. For some reason, I preferred driving the M2 Comp more so than the M3, even though the M3 outperformed the M2 in virtually every metric. Driving the M2 was a very special experience.

Damn these lists make me wonder how old some of you guys are.

My list is
93 Civic DX coupe
04 Civic Si with a Type S swap
09 Civic Si sedan with a k24a swap (sold yesterday)
I’m 61 so yeah the list is long. But more importantly I don’t feel that old and still enjoy driving an exceptionally engineered vehicle.
