So 2 days ago my beautiful blue princess was stolen from my drive. I’m certain that a lot of you will read my explanation and say “Yeah, you should have done this…”, and my response is yes, I probably should have, and i no doubt will going forwards.
Firstly, the car has been recovered in visibly good condition. I haven’t seen her yet apart from the picture included, but she looks ok.
The thieves took her from my drive at 2.15am using a device that uses my keys from inside my house. It took them 2 seconds to open the doors and a further minute to steal her completely. I was able to see all this due to security cameras, the footage of which has been handed to the police. I didn’t have a faraday box or wallet so lesson learned. This is now essential and I’ve bought a set on Amazon.
My wife noticed she was gone at 6.45 and I called the police very shortly after. I was able to tell them where the car was because of the tracking app. I am incredibly glad that I had a tracker fitted!!!! They sent a team to where the police were looking and pinpointed the car at around 11am. CSI then took prints and other evidence and a day later, she is in a police lock-up awaiting the insurance company to collect and assess the damage.
I know that the thieves went on a 2 hour drive hitting a fairly modest 116mph with an average of 30 mph. Ending up at a chop shop just 10 mins drive from my home.
A child seat, wheel rim protectors, cameras and a few other bits are missing totalling about a grand, and I will have to pay an excess of £350. Needless to say I could do without it.
That being said, I wish I’d done a few things to prevent this. A ghost immobiliser is being priced up as I write this and I have decided that I’m going to upgrade the home security with a new gate. A wheel lock looks like a good idea too.
I guess I’m writing this because I wanted to tell someone and maybe it will encourage them to improve their security. My wife who isn’t a car person has been upset that my car had been nicked and said she didn’t realise how much she liked her.
Im looking fwd to getting her back and I’m going to do as much as I can to make sure she isn’t taken again. (Although I appreciate there’s only so much you can do). Fingers crossed that they catch them but I’m not holding my breath.
