Dang you guys are balling if you can just drop $10k like that. Hopefully you paid cash and are not financing. Lets not forget Honda also raised prices by 10k from the prior generation. I think its a good car/value at MSRP, but I personally find it difficult to justify paying much more than that.

You'll never see that money back because used CTR are going closer and closer to MSRP, I saw one for 46k recently. It's not like Honda will end production this year either. Initial shortages were worsen from the limited production run and from people buying the car to flip. Now that the car flipping craze is largely over for this particular car the market will correct itself.

Most of the dealers around me have already lowered adm to 3-5k, and previously they were 5-7k. Pretty soon I'm sure it'll be 1-2k which I wouldn't mind paying just to get it from a dealer closer to me rather than having to go out of state.

With all due respect, I don't think anyone cares about that stuff. You have to divorce fiscal responsibility from the car enthusiast. In most cases, those two things are incongruent. If it all had to make sense, none of us would be here.

If you want something, buy it. It's your money to do as you wish whether you can afford it, should buy it, or otherwise.

When you get older you will realize life is short and to do what you want NOW.
As others have mentioned you can always make more money but can’t buy more time. Find a deal that works for you and enjoy the car in good health.

Not bashing, your money not mine but there's a couple of dealerships here in the DFW that WILL negotiate the $10k markup if you tried hard enough. My guy either got FOMO or had $10k laying around to give away. 😄

I hold the complete opposite view. With age - and I'm 42, just to note - I've come to realize that rushing into car purchases has been among my poorest decisions. In hindsight, patience was always the better choice.

Succumbing to the fear of missing out in buying cars was, frankly, an unwise move in every aspect. Not only would waiting have been more financially prudent for me, but it also would have likely resulted in acquiring a better, more limited model, which was my preference in the end anyway.

Therefore, I'm quite comfortable with the idea of not rushing into the current market frenzy. Whether it means waiting several years to buy at MSRP or eventually opting for a Limited Edition or some special version of the FL5, which seems inevitable, patience seems the wiser strategy.

But, to each their own.

Potential FL5 in the future
Congrats OP! I was in the same boat debating whether to get a CTR or ITS. At one point, I decided on the ITS. But after awhile, I felt like the CTR just seems a little more special and harkens to the true ethos of the type R. Now, I am not pulling the trigger anytime soon as I would only consider a MSRP deal. Like others have said, they will continue to build CTRs for some time. Enjoy yours in the meantime!

I am 45 and have watched lots of family and friends get ill and not get to do what they wanted. I have also seen people save everything for retirement get ill and have it stripped away paying medical bills to stay alive. Meanwhile the ill with no family or $$$ get taken care of just the same or even better then the people bleeding there life savings away to stay alive. Life is short that’s what I have come to realize and your health can change at any minute.

Damn, this thread got deep! I do agree though. Spend extravagantly on things that bring you true happiness.

This, this, this. It seems you and I have experienced or witnessed many of the same harsh and heartbreaking realities of life. Life comes at you fast is an understatement. I will enjoy it to the fullest while I am able. I've never been a proponent of the, "Oh, we'll do it next year!" or "I'll just get it next time!" That's just not how I live my life.

I'm incredibly diligent and measured in every move, so I'm less concerned about running into something blind.

Let’s not get too carried away here. Following that line of thought to the extreme, one might as well spend recklessly on unaffordable luxuries with the rationale of 'you might die tomorrow.' For example, why not overload on loans, put down just 5% on a dream house and a Porsche, without worrying about the feasibility of paying them off? It's all about living in the moment, right? In my opinion, that's not sound advice.

Furthermore, when I see people who earn significantly less than me driving brand new cars, it raises concerns about our collective financial wisdom. It seems to reflect a broader issue with national debt and the culture of 'buy now, worry later,' even when it's beyond one's means.

However, everyone's situation is unique. Encouraging impulse purchases, especially for something like the FL5 Civic Type R at over market value, seems imprudent and somewhat immature. People's circumstances vary greatly – whether they're single, married with kids, their risk tolerance, current debts, and so on. Suggesting that everyone should jump on the latest trend without considering these factors is, in my view, ill-advised. I'm not saying people shouldn't buy it, but I do think many who bought this car at a markup probably made a financially unwise decision.

At the end of the day, though, it's not my place to dictate others' financial choices. If they're comfortable making those decisions, more power to them. But I believe it's worth considering the broader implications of such spending habits.

(007) You are on the wrong forum the GR Yaris site is a few clicks over

ERIC (OP) I am in North Dallas we need to go get a coffee sometime. PM me Secondly I paid over 7K and that was AFTER trading in my GR Corolla so who knows what the real markup was..lol, but anyway I love my 2024 Champion white CTR My only fear is buying 15K worth of stuff for it and then not wanting to drive it like my everyday car (which is what I bought it for) All I do is read about lowering kits, tire, wheel, suspension parts.....etc.. before I get done I will have 80K in the thing...its a sickness with me. the pursuit of perfection. Sometimes I have to just sit back and say it's only a car...lol but then I say to myself .....this is my passion. I love cars and making them better than new.......so OP enjoy your car and make it your own. damn the retirement fund!

Ah, the classic 'go back to your own forum' retort - always the hallmark of a truly welcoming and open-minded community.

Luckily, I can appreciate fine engineering across brands, even if it seems to threaten the delicate brand loyalty you might feel.
