Hi!

First off I am new to the forum and can finally and officially call myself a member, as I drove home my new 2025 FL5 in Sonic Grey Pearl last night with a whopping 32 miles on the odometer. I should also add that this is my first Honda auto in my lifetime, although I've owned more than one dirt bike and have endless pieces of power equipment with their small engines (actually my preferred engine of choice). Long story short, I'm super excited, as you all can imagine!

Being an engineer, I have been reading the Honda Service manual and have been searching for Honda's recommended break-in period. After consulting the paper owner's manual, the on-line interactive owner's manual, the service manual, and interwebs, I see many references to 600 miles of easy driving but, I can't find that in print from Honda anywhere. Does anyone know and can point me to where I can find the official break-in period prescribed by Honda?

Thanks in advance!!!

600 miles is the only recommendation I've ever seen Honda give. Truth be told there is not much you can do to tear up that engine but if you want to be nice to it, that is what I'd go by. :D

Here is a car with 1000 miles on it that has already been modified and produced 586whp :p

Thanks...much appreciated. I'll keep my foot soft until 600 miles before flogging it. After waiting for my FL5, I've had a ton of time for research and already have a lengthly list of mods coming. First and foremost an aftermarket exhaust and will do the rear engine link at the same time for ultimate access.

There really isn't one when I checked.

Basically dont use cruise control, vary the RPMs and dont go WOT

So after break-in period, should I change engine oil only or transmission and diff oils as well?
Honda would probably tell you to not worry about any of it that early.

Page 488 in the 2024 manual.

That's crazy how hidden it is in the manual. I just looked at my 2025 manual and it's on the same page, etc. Thanks for brining my eyes to it!

Yeah you can’t miss it! 🤣🤣🤣

It is silly how it’s buried in a side note that’s not even really related.

Yeah. 2023 NA manuals were missing a few key pieces of info, but EU manuals were seemingly complete. That’s where the 600 mi (1000 km) break-in period came from. Honda eventually added the missing info to NA manuals.

I think the lug nut torque spec is missing from the 2023 manual as well…so for awhile we just tightened the lug nuts real good. Then tightened a little more. Patted the fender and said “Yep. That’ll do it.” No one has reported problems with this method. It’s 94 ft lbs in case you trust your torque wrench more than me.🤣

Welcome. I'm new too. Just got my'25 cw CTR Dec 16th. That first 600 miles was brutal. Someone told me 4k rpm max for the break in period. Now I see that isn't in there. I think it was someone at the dealership. Should've known better to listen to them. But I drive it everywhere for like 5 days and then soon as I hit 600 miles I gave it the beans.
There's a kitty of good info on this forum and very nice members and vendors. TSP is very knowledgeable I'm sure you already see from their earlier post and @Unity Performance is also a great vendor with hard to find parts and great customer service.

Welcome, and it's great seeing another SGP owner!

I got told to just drive the car and not worry about it at all.

For the first 1500 KMs I never went past 3500 rpm and never lugged the engine in a higher gear than needed.

Varying the rpms is recommended.
No need to change oil or fluids either but I suppose you could if you wanted to.

Enjoy the car!
