Ditch the Tesla and DD the CTR. I have a DE5 and a AP2 S2K you'll regret selling the S2K. TBH if you are over it, it is what it is and it'll will find a good home to someone who can appreciate it going forward.

To everyone who is bashing the Tesla. It's just a DD not the fun car. I live in California gas is $5/gal it makes sense here.

Also I would like to add the vendor support and part availability for the S2000 is shrinking making
If you can keep the s2000 and get the FL5 it would be the right move. I own both and can’t see myself getting rid of either. I barely drive my S but every time I do I’m reminded of what a special car it is.

The wheel hop and traction issues are very easy to fix or get around them.

How are you getting around them?

My Wife's dd is a Tesla Model Y Performance. For around town driving and running errands, nothing beats it. No engine to warm up, cabin can be set at any temp and always on... fast and quiet. They also handle decent because of the low CoG. It's a super practical car to have if you can charge on the cheap or even free.

I don't find much wheel hop on the FL5, but there is a bit if torque steer.

Not bashing a Tesla, but who says a DD can't be "fun"? Just giving perspective, if you already have a modified S2K and feel you are over it, most likely you will be pretty underwhelmed by a FL5. If your worried about $5 gas as the crux to why you wouldn't choose the FL5 as a DD but willing to spend that money as a fun car I can't fathom to understand your priorities. GL to whatever you decide.

Agree. It's a fantastic daily. I've had a MYP for the last 3+ years. I use it to cart the kiddos around, run errands, etc. It's nice to have a car that I don't need to worry about. I'll park that thing anywhere and I don't care if the kids are kids in it.

Rear motor mount gets rid of the wheel hop completely with minor NVH added. A tune even though it can make extra power and make the car decently quick you can do boost by gear which really helps with the traction issues.

If you can, keep the S. I have a 2.5 yr old, I don’t have a lot free time. But at least it’s there to enjoy when you can. Keeping a car that’s barely driven is not cheap. Anyway, seeing how you sold one S prior and bought it again, I’d say hold off a little more before selling.

I’d hang onto the S2K. Japanese performance cars from that era are getting very hard to find and command big bucks. It’ll only get harder to replace them. You’ve got plenty of time to acquire an FL5.

FL5 will be the perfect family car for you.
You’d wonder why you didn’t switch earlier at a Costco/Sams parking lot loading up diapers and groceries 🤣

1) I charge free at work. When I do charge at home it's cheaper than gas prices. It adds up, esp for something im putting 15k miles on a yr
2) I have the MYP so it is "fun" it will make me smile when I do launches occasionally.
3) I have a 40min commute to work in traffic. I would prefer not to do that in a manual. I am not in my 20s anymore
4) In regards to money I would sell the s2k + mods and put it towards the FL5 so I am not walking out with a loan.
5) I can afford gas in a weekend/fun car I'm not driving it every day or even 5k miles/yr. Its a toy
6) Priorities are to save invest and allow compound interest to do its job. While also having a bit of fun while you are at it.

Agreed same car here its a great daily. Is there anything to help minimize some of the torque steer?

Lol I still care where I park it. You will be missing a window if you don't do that around here. But yeah for the interior I don't care as much about it as I would a "fun" car.

Appreciate it, I will try and hang on a little bit longer after reading some of the feedback. I just need to find a way to fall in love with it again

Lets hope they don't stop making the FL5 anytime soon!

I don't think anything can be done about the torque steer. It's just a by product of asking the car to steer and power 315hp through the front wheels. I will say, during spirited canyon driving, you won't notice it as much. It's an amazing backroad car!

I was in exactly the same position as you. I'd owned my S2000 for 8 years when my son was born. I kept it for a year or so and realised that a) I was still spending money on it (tax, insurance, service etc) but b) he wasn't going to be able to go in it for several years yet, so c) I hardly used it as a result.

I could've kept it and got the FL5 but took the hard decision to part ways. I'd always thought it was going to be a life keeper car but then realised that things changed with your priorities.

I don't regret the decision at all. The time that I would've spent keeping the S2000 going has just gone into spending time with my son and taking him out in the FL5.

Completely different cars, each with pros and cons as you note, but then my life is completely different now and the FL5 fits in so much better.
