How confident are you about the security system on the Type R?

I keep my key in one of those Faraday pouches... they don't exactly block the signal but impede it hopefully enough where someone can't intercept and copy it.

Do you think in general the Type R security is sufficient or is more needed to make it totally theft proof (short of someone loading it on a flat bed)?

Recently in the NY area several fk8's and couple of fl5's have been stolen. Video footage shows car pulls up next to outdoor parked R's in a couple minutes you see the R lights flash, thief gets into unlocked car and drives away. They are using scanners to find the unlock/start frequency and taking the car easily. Old school steering wheel locks might slow them down or a kill switch installed and a loud maybe gps alarm with app kill switch is more costly option. A removable steering is also great since no thief is bringing a spare one. No garaged R's have been reported stolen.

OBD blocker, hidden kill switch, something like Lowjack or Tag (don't know what you have in the US), faraday pouch for the keys (one that is really working - to test it, put your keys in it and try to unlock your doors - shouldn't be able to), couple of Airtags hidden in the car, and a serious anti-theft system (like IGLA - don't know if you can get this in the US).

But even with all of this, they can bring a flatbed truck and take the car. You might be able to find it with the Airtags/Lowjack...

Disklok steering wheel lock, pedal locks, parking mode dashcams with shock sensing, smart tags, couple of sets of wheel locks, couple of wheel boots on driver's side, etc. Garage the car at home, park in highest garage level at malls. No guarantee the car won't be taken, but make them work for it and let them create some noise while doing it.

Yeah it’s a Type R, but it’s a Honda Civic and not some ultra rare collectible or exotic. I assume you have insurance so just live your life and stop wasting your time, energy, money and mental stress worrying about something that has an extremely small likelihood of happening. Even if it does happen, your insurance will cover it and you go get a replacement car.

Yeah, Faraday pouches... whatever you do, don't buy off ebay. I was able to lock and unlock my car from almost 15 feet away using the remote unlock through the pouch. Oddly though, when I wash the car, I only put the key fob about 10 feet away to stop the car from locking and unlocking itself as I wash it....

I'd like to know who makes a truly shielded faraday pouch... I'll have to do some more research.

True, but I'd like to use the car to go out and eat or to places where the car will be in the dark for a few hours. You're right, it's just a car, a cool one and a seemingly rare one at this point but I'll adopt the no worries attitude, Thanks for your perspective.

just makes me so glad that I don't live in the city.

I was mowing my lawn last week and saw a white FL5 drive by and I thought someone had taken my car as it was just sitting outside unlocked lol, could not see the car from where I was mowing. Not a lot of FL5s here, I am in the middle of nowhere.

Unfortunately a common problem for the entire car industry. Honda's have always been theft targets for a variety of reasons.
I bought RFI wallets for my key fobs off Amazon and they work per my test. My wallets have 2 pockets and only the inner one blocks RF, so follow the instructions.
I also ordered an inexpensive OBD2 port blocker off eBay today. Image looks like it's from a plastic parts maker, but I will remake in metal as needed. I just need a starting place.

I'd like to install a hidden toggle kill switch. Wire the switch in series to something normally powered off while the engine is off but needs 12VDC to start the engine. Maybe ECU power fuse or something ... not sure yet. I guess I'd have to get a relay for that so the switch doesn't take the current.

Just recently saw on a Reddit post that a Black FL5 was stolen in NY (Bronx area) this weekend. Owner said it crossed states to NJ and eventually lost track after entering Philadelphia.

I also remember hearing news of a Championship White FL5 that was stolen a few months back, also in NY, but the CW was eventually found intact, surprisingly.

I'm glad you mentioned that. The inner pocket!

I thought those pouches would weaken the signal enough to keep it from being intercepted several feet away but the inner pocket actually blocks it 100%, even next to the car. I suppose you can set the locking system to auto so when you drive up, turn it off, secure the FOB and leave the car, it will auto lock without spitting out a code.

Port blocker sounds interesting.

There are a lot of things you can do to try and prevent car thefts but at the end of the day if they really want it. They're gonna take it
