Hey everyone!

I was trying to park in my garage and adjusted the car. Then got out to move a few things and check the tires

After getting back in, I put it in 1st and tried to accelerate. Bringing the revs up to 2k...thinking I didn't have the clutch released far enough.

Car did not move and then alerted me with a loud BEEP! At which time I realized the parking break was on! I put it back in neutral and disengaged it.

Pulled into the garage and then let it sit in neutral for a little while.

Could this have damaged the clutch?? Does the car know not to engage the clutch while the e-brake is on?

This is only my second time taking it out, it's brand new :(

Totally fine. The clutch isn't that fragile. Forget about it.

the clutch is a lot more durable than you think. and, Honda designed the parking brake to auto-release. it even says to keep parking brake engaged when taking off on steep hills in the owner's manual

@Amm5890 thanks, not sure about smell. I did smell some BBQ, like charcoal, but we have 40+mph winds all day so it could have been someone's cooking lol.

The car has all sorts of smells right now since it's literally brand new. I was out for about an hour driving gently. Everything was up to temp.

As for the parking break releasing automatically. It did not :( I don't think i had my seat belt on since I just got back in the car after checking it over. The car didn't move at all, I didn't even feel it jerking or anything.

This will not damage your clutch. You are fine. Even if you made the clutch smell a little its fine. After you started driving, did you notice anything funny? If not, its fine. Did you likely wear the clutch a tiny bit, well if you smelled something probably. Damage is extremely unlikely unless you sat like that for quite some time.

Thanks everyone for the replies so far.

It was only for a few seconds before it alerted me with the audible "beep". Just really surprised the car didn't move at all, not even a squat or anything! Didn't think the rear brakes were that strong.....or maybe I wasn't engaging the clutch enough. Still getting used to the car.

The clutch seemed to worked fine going into the garage after. I let the car idle in neutral for a little bit, in case it was hot or something.

I'll drive it again soon (maybe tomorrow) to see if anything is different. Although, I only have 1 day of driving with it so far lol.

it might not work if you didn't have your seat belt on. but it definitely works. i do it all the time.

I have had this happen to me a few times when I didn't have the seat belt fastened. For example, got back into my car to readjust the car's position after I parked it. Didn't release the parking brake and tried to move the car. It didn't move because I hadn't released the e-brake. Not a problem. Car is fine. I also tried moving forward with the e-brake on WHILE my seat belt was fastened and the e-brake released automatically once I started to move forward.

Your car is fine.
