Just got done an oil change.

It does seem like I melted the paint brakes from the last time I was out. The good news is that its entirely superficial. Everything looked fine. I can start to see spider webbing forming on my front right rotor.
You just unlocked the Brownbo brakes hehe

So I had a track day about 2 weeks ago where I had a fresh set of Endless MX72-plus pads. About my 3rd session in, the car started to get pretty noticeable brake judder under any medium to heavy braking. Now the car judders under anything harder than light braking and even after some pretty light street miles it's still happening. Any ideas what I need to do to stop this and avoid it in the future? Do I simply need dedicated track pads or to bed in the brakes more?

I dont know about Endless pads but what you are describing sounds like it could be from pad deposit. I know that under braking when you get pretty heavy vibration then typically theres something going on with the rotors

Pad deposits for sure. Mx72 not really a track pad so probably got too hot and transferred an un even layer onto the rotor. Depending on how bad it is I would try to do some hard stops on cold rotors to see id you can get the deposits out. Then just drive around normally. If this does not work only option is to get pads that are more abrasive and then do the same thing until they go away

Ah yeah I definitely saw pad deposits on the rotors afterwards so that would probably be why. Guess I need to get more aggressive brake pads then, it's pretty annoying especially during the sessions

been there, its really annoying. I usually never had issues until the last pads and the juddering was so bad it made the track day not fun at all. I am fine with a little juddering but this was really really bad. I could not get it to go away until I got some better pads. And the pads I had were track pads.

You could also try to hone the rotors, this could work but I would bet you go out on track again with the mx72 and it will happen again so better to get some more appropriate track pads.

Also always do a cooling lap and try to stay off the brakes

Yeah I probably won't go out with the mx72 again since it'll probably happen again, it really puts a damper on trying to improve on my braking when it just feels crazy with the juddering.

I signed up for my first local Autocross event near me. Its SCCA. I don't on being competitive or anything since I'll be on the Hankook RS4s and they need a ton of eat to be warmed up.

Like should I be bringing the regular tools that I bring when I go to the track, I cant imagine I need a jack and jack stands.

And should I be getting a number sticker to out on the side? Im registered as #36 or something

I dont really know what to expect tbh

You don't really need anything other than a tire pressure gauge and a torque wrench to check your lug nuts before you run, but if you think you might need to adjust or check anything you can bring that too.

For numbers, I used to run national events for years with fancy magnets but since I change classes so much now for locals I just use high-contrast (ie, not blue on blue) painters tape and make the numbers on-site that way (most clubs allow this although some might not).

You need comfy sneakers to work the course!

Did you sign up for the first annual Type R track day at VIR? @Rhorn

Unfortunately I can't, I have some family obligations otherwise Id be all in. I've been a ghost to them for most of the year because of work 😅

Pretty sure if I tell my mother I cant make it because I'm going to the track or work the weekend I'll get murdered 🤣

Next year will be alot better

Great thread here, just picked up my FL5 earlier this month. I had an FK8 but never got on track, then had an Audi RS5 for a while but just really missed the TypeR and the Honda fun. Was in Japan last Nov and went to Spoon and was like yup getting another R for sure.

I used to go to the track a ton but with Motorcycles I was at the track 1-2x a month back in the day so very familiar in that regards. Cars I have only been twice but missing the track and excited to get back out with this car. Motorbikes is all about being smooth on inputs so hopefully that can translate somewhat but just wanna have some fun. Thanks for this thread and good info to start, will be changing brake fluid to begin with and need to get a helmet and slowly work into things.

Sounds exactly like my progression. Funny enough I moved from motorbikes to cars to be more safe, and ended up getting more injured in the car lol

It translates really well, 4 contact patches is nice BUT cars can't touch a the feeling of a motorcycle. The high doesn't last as long

I went from a GTI to a B9 S4 for a few months and was like this isn't it (too big and heavy) and then got a Golf R. And then eventually a few 11th Gens

Shoot for Castrol SRF for the brake fluid!
