I can second this. I was lucky enough to get a few days in with a professional racing coach and I he was telling me that he always tells the drivers that only time you ever want to go flat out 10/10 is on a qualifying lap. All other laps you want to be 8/10 or 9/10 otherwise you'll overdrive and will end up crashing.
As did I. I was in a hurry to advance. Once I was let loose (too early) I developed bad habits, which ultimately ended with a near death experience. I've changed for the better. I'm glad now that it happened so that I can still be here to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Hey tomorrow I'm going to be doing some maintenance on my car.

I put a good amount of wear on my tires from last weekend.

Should I be rotating my tures front to rear? Or side to side?

I don't really have a reference at all to measure tire wear. I bought a tire guage but not sure how useful that'll be. I can take pictures when I'm working on my car tomorrow

If I remember correctly you are on RS4s which are unidirectional so you can only do back to front.
I know some have done left to right on some unidirectional tires and its fine unless its wet.

Also are you guys rotating your tires between days on a multiple day event? I did ny first 2 day event last weekend and was too lazy to rotate my tires for day 2.

I feel like it was mistake because I the ride is really rough now lol

I usually don't unless the track is really killer on tires.

Isnt that for general maintenance though? I did that with my PS4s. Im assuming its different with you have track tires
As long as you have non-directional tires I always do the cross rotation (sometimes at the track it's easier to rotate front-to-back due to being on a jack). If the tires are directional though then I do front-to-back.

I monitor wear, and if one end or corner is really getting abused I'll move it around (track / event length dependent). However, as an example at CMP last weekend since the 4 tires were new I just monitored and never rotated. For the next event, the fronts will be rears and the rears will be fronts.

This may sound dumb but how exactly are you monitoring the wear? Like are you taking off the tire or are you looking from the wheel well?

Because honestly I look at the tires and really have no idea what I'm looking for. I see the burnt rubber and scuff marks and cant really determine anything unless there is obvious damage.

Ive seen people post pictures of their tires off and ask questions so I could do that. But I really dont how to determine tire wear if that makes any sense. I just have a tread guage lol

Not an expert here but you can clearly see the front and rears are wearing differently right? Front does most of the work so they will take a beating so moving them to the back will even the wear. Left to right a bit trickier but usually tracks have more turns a certain way than the other so one of the tires will have more wear, usually and specially in camber restricted cars will be on the top of the sidewall. Lime rock for example the whole track is right turns, there is only 1 left turn so people usually flip the tire after every session or 2 (not me lol I am not that serious or fast haha).

But yeah I will probably move your fronts to the back regardless of wear, you did tons of track time so put the "bad" tires in the back and the "good tires" in the front.

The problem with RS4s is that they are made out of the hardest tire material known to man lol so its actually hard to see the wear, I did 2 track days on mine and they seriously look brand new lol

I'm just checking to see if the fronts (on this platform) or a corner are getting a lot more wear (tread depth is lower, shoulder wear is higher, inner rib wear is higher, etc).

Just got done an oil change.

It does seem like I melted the paint brakes from the last time I was out. The good news is that its entirely superficial. Everything looked fine. I can start to see spider webbing forming on my front right rotor.

Here are my tires. To me they dont look bad but when I look closer I can see the scuffed rubber which I'm assuming is normal. I just don't know exactly what to look for when checking tire wear. They look fine to me despite the rough ride (but I think thats from wheel weights falling off)
