Hi,

I had a Civic Type R a few years ago. Yesterday, I checked out a 2024 Type R and was quite impressed with the newer model. I'm in the Austin area and the dealerships I contacted are charging $3k to $5k over MSRP.

Does anyone know of any dealerships charging MSRP for Type R within Texas? I'm willing to have it shipped from a neighboring state as well. Or, maybe there's a thread I didn't see that has dealerships with no markups.

Thanks :)

Speaking from my personal experience is everywhere in Texas is about 5k over. If you're not set on a specific color, your best chance at MSRP is going to be Boost Blue or Grey considering there are several of those sitting around.

I think you're right. Back in 2019, when I purchased my first type R, it was a dealership located in Mississippi.

I thought things may have changed but looks like I'll need to expand my search. Since I'm looking for a boost blue (or black), hopefully, I'll be able to find a dealership willing to do msrp (or less )

Rusty Wallace Honda was the closest to MSRP I've been able to track in Texas. I don't really need to buy at that time since I already had the type r but I still keep an eye out to see what the market is like. When I wanted to buy, I paid more than I should have, of course.

I'm in Austin and got my Type R a month ago, MSRP. Called every single dealer in Texas and found 2 that were willing to sell to me at MSRP. Try Fort Worth Honda and ask for Sean Willecke. He hooked me up at MSRP, no dealer adds except for tint. Had a friend drive me to Fort Worth from Austin and drove the car back. Also check John Eagle Honda in Houston, they were willing to sell at MSRP but had some dealer adds.

When I spoke to John Eagle a few weeks back (on the phone) they insisted that $20K over was the going price... lol! I think it just shows how timing and which salesperson you talk to can be such a variable.

There's a misconception on the forums that deals are homogenous. Just because one or a handful have secured a deal at a given dealership, or region, at MSRP doesn't mean others can or will. There are many factors that are often left out of these "great deals" people are allegedly securing. Did the previous buyer have a trade-in, what was the timing (e.g., end of the month, beginning of the month, near a holiday, yesterday or December 2022), did they have purchase history, was more than one vehicle being purchased, did they agree to add-ons, and the list goes on. MSRP + add-ons, no matter how small is not MSRP by the way.

The best path forward is identifying a dealership who only sells vehicles, specifically the Civic Type R, at MSRP and go from there. With demand no longer being at a fever pitch and relative supply being in a better place, it shouldn't take too long to track down a car and secure it. If you're open to traveling, it makes this far easier.

100%

Also, salespeople tend to be more willing to play ball if you walk through the door vs cold calling.

This is a little nutty — technically I found a Civic Type R under MSRP! :)

I bought it from a dealership in MS and I'll it shipped to me. Initially, they listed it at $5k over MSRP. I told the sales guy I wasn't interested, but he said he'd see if he could do better. The next day, he called back with a new offer at MSRP. I mentioned the shipping cost was more than I expected, so they knocked off another $400.

I could've pushed them more, but now we are talking about a couple of hundred dollars, so happy with the turnout. I should have it by the end of next week.

Thanks to everyone for the support and suggestions
