I have zero experience with PWR but based on history their intercooler should be great. I wonder how it stacks up against the PRL? 🤔
I mean they supply F1 and MotoGP teams, so I would think they are top notch.

It's about 10 pounds lighter than PRL and 4 pounds heavier than stock

Isn’t the PWR intercooler for Bar/plate? Whereas the FK8 one was tube and fin.

From Technical Sales in PWR Europe:

Thanks for the prompt response and in terms of Tube/Fin versus Bar/Plate there are advantages and disadvantages for both but dependant on core tube length and stack height a bar and plate unit can offer superior heat rejection and in this case it certainly does.

The downside is that it can, in some installations, be more susceptible to heat soak and does carry a weight penalty over tube and fin.

Because of the tube length in this application, we cannot use our highest F1 grade tube and fin and so the overall heat rejection of this bar & plate is specification significantly superior to the Tube & Fin version used in the FK8 unit.

The FK8 design was specified with tube & fin as the PWR didn’t feel the market couldn’t support the price point of a bar & plate design.

However, with the FL5 carrying a much higher price point than FK8 we feel that the market can support a higher performing (and more costly) product so we went all out on this one.

Interesting they say the bar and plate is more money when usually it's the cheaper one

I get the argument they made that the FL5 costs more than the FK8, so the owners can afford more. They clearly don’t do enough market research. Many are willing to put on products found on Temu/eBay/Amazon because it’s cheap. Quality comes second. It’s also why PRL does well. Their products seems to priced perfectly for the majority of FK8/FL5 owners.

Buy once cry once. Temu or cheap Chinese parts are crazy imo. Mod less with better parts or bite the bullet and shell out some cash.

Sounds like a cop out to me. They will learn eventually, most FL5 owners aren't in a position to immediately pay 2x of what the equivalent FK8 part costs.

True. Just having owned a few entry level Honda and Toyota sporty cars, I’d say majority of owners are okay with subpar quality as long as they agree with the price. To these people, it’s a mod. They did a mod. That’s it. As if what they put on is actually better than what came from the factory.

"better" is subjective in some cases. I got s PRL intake because I wanted turbo noise. That was better to me vs. factory. Probably no objective numbers gain however.

Yes. I am not embarking on a discussion regarding mods and where it is bought. Seems like there’s a case for every part. And I don’t really care where people buy their car parts or what they put on their cars. It’s none of my business. But I was just stating what I’ve seen over the years of modding my cars.

100% agree. No one seems to have a goal really. Just money and a wrench. Which still makes for a fun hobby
