I recently got a pretty bad rock chip on my 600 mile 2025 Type R and then within a few days I got some more. The initial chip was about the size of a dime and I had it repaired by a local shop. It’s still pretty visible, looks like a water mark with a black spot. I’ve never experienced this many chips in any of my other cars (bmw m2, 11th gen civic si, 25 CRV). I have a feeling our windshields are just very soft and fragile. I got a quote from Honda to replace the Windsheild and it’s coming out to around $2,400 or so with labor. Has anyone replaced their Windsheild before, if so did you go with oem and how much was it? I hear the hatchbacks have similar Windshields, wondering if it makes to go that route.

Here in the westcoast the tint shops can do a windshield replacement. The window needs to be recalibrated for the rain sensors.

Safelite in Las Vegas was about $800 for my old BMW 2 series.

I'm not a OEM glass snob so their glass is fine.

Here in the DMV. My windshield was cranked after about 3 months of ownership. Had it replaced at Glass America. Excellent work. Cost $2600.

yikes, did you pay out of pocket for it? Did they use oem glass and change the strips?

Check with your insurance. Some policies will have windshield replacement as part of the policy, my previous provider allowed a replacement once every year or 2. Also, if you have comprehensive coverage you can go that route and it may be cheaper depending upon your deductible.

Yes. Used OEM glass and replaced everything. I used insurance minus the deductible.

I had mine replaced a couple months ago. Unfortunately a common problem in AZ. Insurance covered it 100% and was told OEM part was the only available option. Service tech did the calibration in my driveway.
My son's FK8 was replaced about the same time with a non-OEM windscreen.
Interestingly, the Honda OEM part is made in China, while my son's non-OEM was made in the USA (though manufacturer name sounds Asian).

Price sounds right for oem with sensor calibration. I was quoted $600 for aftermarket or $1900 for oem without calibration in New Orleans after getting a large bullseye at the bottom of the windshield. I wound up babysitting the glass with resin and a uv light to fill it myself and get by until I inevitably get another crack and replace it. I have windshield insurance coverage at $250.

I've gotten cracks on all 6 cars that I've owned in the last 10 years so I'm a bit tired of paying for replacements.

Normally cheaper if you pay cash.

Insurance companies are a PIA to deal with, so installers charge more due to arguing with them and waiting on payment from insurance (often weeks if not months).
