I installed the TSP downpipe, but it took me much longer than I had hoped for. I ran through some problems during the install and was hoping to get clarity from people here.

1. I was lucky enough not to completely shear off the studs. That being said, I still galled a decent portion of the 2 studs. I attempted to remove the studs using a double nut method, but couldn't get any movement on the stud without it feeling dangerously close to shearing off. Does anybody have any tips/advice/videos on how to remove these studs?

2. Did anybody else have issues aligning the OEM heat shield to the downpipe? If so, is there a step I missed on this? One of the threaded holes on the DP seemed to be a couple of millimeters off. The photos (without the spacer) show the misalignment.

So for the studs, double nut which you already tried. If not weld a nut in the end and take out the stud. I recommend changing out for the titanium hardware.

As far as the heatshield goes it has a little bit of flex to try to adjust as best as possible.

I had a similar issue with the OEM heatshield not fitting. I intend to get the TSP hybrid downpipe blanket when it comes out though so I've been running no heatshield for now. I'm sure I could have flexed it to get it to fit but it wasn't worth it to me.

My OEM studs were not a problem so I left them in.

Don't touch the studs!!! I broke one and it was a fucking nightmare. I had to take the turbo apart and do some dirty things to it that I don't even want to repeat here. Ignore the allure of fancy titanium and leave them be before you ruin something.

Forget you ever read this.

If the stud is galled and unusable it needs to be removed there is no avoiding it. Also if you use proper technique the stud cab be replaced without any issues. I have done 5 downpipes already on various R’s and 0 issues and not a single broken stud or bolt.

Best way I have found is to use penetrating oil, let it soak and then torch it to remove them.

1. I left the OEM studs - still had plenty of thread to work with. I ended up using the provided titanium nuts from TSP for now and torqued to 33 ft lbs. I will go back later and install the 2x OEM (90212-SA5-003) nuts again.

2. I used a drill bit to cut a small hole right next to the original hole. It fit perfectly without any bends. Car runs great and no weird vibrations!
