Is the rear hatch opening height adjustable? The spoiler will rub up on the garage door if I park front in, with the rear at the garage door.

Yes it can be done, you should look for a pair of gas springs with a shorter extended length than the OEMs.

Are gas springs for trunks/hatches usually universally compatible between most vehicles?

I'm also thinking a simpler solution would be like a coated/protected adjustable rope-wire that will hold it back a bit from opening all the way.

I think many of us have learned the spoiler can hit an open garage door, but I haven't seen any solution aside from "be careful, because the spoiler will hit the open garage door".

Lift Support (that's actually what they are called) are not universally compatible. There are many factors that affect the thickness, length and force of the lift support when the trunk is in the fully extended position as intended.

How much sooner do you need the hatch to stop? Sometimes you may be able to find a pair that work, as long as it will work with the hardware on the car and its strong enough keep the hatch up.

That's quite a bit.

You will have to stick something soft on your garage door, or spend the time to find a set of lift support that will work for the car.

Measure the eye-to-eye length of the stock lift support, the see if there is anything at least 3 inches shorter that work.

Leftover foam padding from another home project is my solution for now!

That's a great idea! Totally gonna try this out haha. I have the same issue as well with my garage door.
I'm willing to get even more ugly about it with some noodles or better foam. I had these lying around.

It helps for the situations that I might forget about the garage door or if my partner decides to open the back before I get to it.

I'm consciously making an effort to open it carefully or slowly, or park backwards if I h ave a lot of unloading to do.
