It finally occurred to me why this was happening.

Feeling a little dumb for not figuring this out sooner, but it finally hit me today.

I always keep my key in my pocket and every time I wash my car, the doors unlock, and then lock again over and over. The first few times it happened, I assumed it was because I was getting close to the car, then moving away repeatedly. I then just put the key in the house and continue on. Today I was washing my car and realized that it is the water hitting the driver or passenger door handle that causes this to happen!

Anyway, the solution remains the same, but now it makes more sense!

This happen to anyone else?

I've never had it happen when spraying the car with water, but I've had it happen when using a wash mit or when drying the car. So now I'll just leave the keys in the cup holder any time I do anything to my car.

Yes, this is a normal occurrence on my FL5. I have experienced this with other cars as well. I typically place the fob far enough away from the car when washing it. In my case I set it on top of a freezer in my garage that's about 20 feet away from where I'm washing the car.

Yep this happens the first few times I wash the car. Now I just make sure its not on me....

Opposite thing, I've had the car covered in snow and the keyless entry just refuses to work. I have to use the button to unlock the door...

Yup. Happens to me every time, including today.

What I did notice today, which I found a bit odd, was that I tried to unlock the car via keyless entry mid wash and it didn’t work while the handle was all wet. Similar to the above comment regarding snow.

strange…

I've seen the water stream trigger it as well as my sponge while washing near the door handles.

When I first noticed this, I purchased a few different ebay Faraday pouches, but they don't block or shield the RF unless you walk like 20 yards away from the car, then there is some slight attenuation over the bare key (pressing the buttons) .... so they are useless for blocking the key while washing the car.

You can turn off that feature in the security settings but I like using it too much so I just place the key away from the car and it's fine.

Another item of interest with the key fob is if your cellphone is in front of it in your pocket then the car barely detects the fob when you approach it.

Press and hold both lock and unlock bottons together for three seconds. Then red indicator blinks twice that means smart key starts sleeping. Push either lock or unlock botton to wake it up.

In Japan, it works. The key might be different from JPN one.

This started happening to me way back with BMWs. Always thought it was too sensitive with just the water hitting the sensor.

Yeah, I saw that option, but I like the feature as well.

Interesting. I will give this a try.
