Hi all,
I'm a recent owner of a SGP FL5 and very much enjoy the car. I've wanted a Type R ever since the original Civic back in the 90's.

One thing I've noticed with the car is what can only be described as a "knocking" sound and feeling as I apply the brake pedal.

The brakes work just fine, but it's very strange and I don't recall it from the demo I drove.

If the car is at a standstill it's most noticeable. It happens both when the parking brake is on, auto braking is applied or not.

It feels like a rattle or tap / loose sensation as I lightly apply the brakes. It happens every time. It's not the sound of my foot hitting the pedal, rather the first few mm's of pedal travel.

The dealer / tech said they can feel something but it's not markedly different from other Type R cars they have in.

Is this something anyone else has experienced or knows what it might be?

I've not noticed it on any other car.

Thanks in advance!

I’m no expert, but it seems like maybe something is loose in the brake pedal/lever somewhere and needs to be adjusted.

My 2024 type r brake pedal does the exact same thing, I wondered if this had something to do with brembos but it feels like it's coming from the pedal itself. It feels weird but is this just normal for these cars?

I had a 2023 si and don't remember the brake pedal in that car ever doing this. I don't remember the brake pedal in any other car I've ever droven doing this.

I went back into the dealership to pick up some touch up paint and tried another car for the same feeling.

The showroom model had a similar sensation but it wasn't as pronounced if that makes sense. Swapping between them about 4 times to test and I had to really concentrate to feel it.

I'm going to try and stop worrying about it now. The brakes work incredibly well so I'm trusting that nothing is wrong or faulty.

100% stock. No changes to the car.
reason I ask is with some aftermarket pads you get a knock when backing up and then again when going forward, usually because they just are not as snug + don't have the anti rattle clips. However this only happens when the first time you brake and not constantly, so yours happens every time you brake?

Did the dealer take a look as in remove the pads and look at everything?

Sorry, I missed this. The tech at the dealership sat in the car with me and we swapped from mine to a showroom model.

No further investigation happened.

It's definitely present but hard to show as significantly different as it seems that they all have a similar sensation at the brake pedal.

I’ve noticed the same thing, I believe. I think it’s just a little play in the pedal linkages, like the pin that connects the master cylinder push rod to the pedal, or maybe the push rod could be slightly misadjusted so there’s a little too much take up before it contacts the M/C piston. In any case, I don’t think there’s anything to be concerned about.
