I'm not sure. I can't recall how important that little bit of clearance was at the time of install. Sorry about that. I find the tapered nose helpful because it helps me not damage the threads on frequent tire changes/rotations. But it's definitely a non-OEM look and you have to use open end nuts.

Sorry to bring this back up - but curious if any others have experience they want to chime in with?

I bought the same EC-7's in 18x8.5 ET58 that I plan on running on my DE5 for autocross use. I don't do track days currently but don't like the idea of minimal thread engagement at all! And I would ideally want to run the 3mm spacer up front...

A friend of mine who had an FL5 briefly last year ran EC-7's for a few months before he sold the car (he did not run spacers). He was concerned about the engagement but never had an issue. That was a minimal sample though so curious on others thoughts?

FYI for anyone doing extended studs on the fronts, you do not need to cut the heat shield.
Just PB blast the 3 screws holding the shield and maybe use an impact screwdriver and they come off easy. You can then rotate the heat shield to make clearance to install whatever extended stud. Overall very easy install.
