Hello everyone,
I spent couple of days trying to figure out why my rear suspension was making a clunking noise when going over uneven roads and patches at low speed (10-15MPH). Going straight over bumps seems to be ok. I looked around and did a lot of googling. I didn’t find the answer I needed and some people told me to check my sway bar end links.
SOLUTION: For me, 4 bolts that was holding the sway bar to the body of the car backed out. I went and tightened them and the noise went away. Ride smooth now with no sounds. This was the main reason why my rear suspension was making the clunking noise. In my case, I did not touch the 4 bolts on the rear sway bar and they backed out from factory specs.
Another solution, many people with loose endlink bolts because that’s the bolt that they removed to install the springs. You can go back and torque them to 30ft lbs.
I learned that 99% of clunking noise comes from sway bar issues. The end links inside also made out of plastic, if the components inside the endlink decided to break, you will also get that clunking noise. Honda tech told me about that one.
In conclusion, check your sway bar brackets and end links. Will solve 99% of your clunking issues in the rear. Another tip, make sure to grease the rubber that the springs sit in and make sure the rubber guides are seated correctly in the lower control arms.
This is the post you’re looking for if you want to fix your clunking sound
hope this helps.
