Are there any guides on how to clean and freshen up the AC and the AC Evaporator to remove the smell of a dirty AC?

What I did on a older car is
1. Remove cabin air filter
2. Set fan speed to max and recirculating to OFF (fresh air mode)
3. Spray lysol spray in the air intake on the cowl.

Yeah tried and true way I've done before. I might do that first before really cleaning it out. I've only got 6k miles on it and it doesn't rain much in SoCal, but there's a slight funkiness to the AC when I use it now...

I'm interested in knowing how to drain and do it through the evaporator line (which usually is under somewhere... )

I generally know the process to do this, but unsure of where everything is in the CTR.
I have yet to do the Lysol into the intake cowl, but I recently changed my cabin air filter and got the Meguiars Whole Air Refresher. Its helped so much especially after all the dust and dirt that got kicked around recently with the Santa Ana Winds.

Oh I have a can of that stuff already. Did you replace the filter after you do the can deployment?

do you park under a tree? always make sure to clean the leaves off your cowl ASAP. parked under a tree with my old Tacoma and never could get rid of the smell even with all the treatments. Guess some debris was stuck in the evaporator box and didn't want to take the dash apart to replace it. even worse, the debris soaked up enough liquid that liquid would seep from the corner of the evap box, making the passenger side carpet wet.

you should use the foaming cleaner stuff you spray up the drain tube.

I park under a garage, but I do like to wash once or twice a month. Where's the drain tube accesed from? Should I also make sure I close up the AC intake when I clean or wash?

Thanks for the link :)

the drain tube should be located in the passenger footwell, routed through the firewall. although i haven't actually looked on this car, every other car i've worked on it's like that..

edit: might be easier to spray it up the tube from under the car...not sure how easy it is to access. looks like you might have to pull up the carpet to access it from inside. found this post:

anyways, it's an expanding foam type cleaner, so just spray the entire can into the drain hose. wait however long it says to on the bottle, and follow instructions. i think it said to blow the fan on high for 20 minutes or something like that.
