I’m about to pull the trigger on a set of winter wheels and I’m leaning towards the Enkei Raijin 18x8 et42. Primarily because I feel all the wider wheel options tend to extend out closer to the fender and this set of wheels does a decent job of matching the look of the stock 19x9.5 et60 without breaking the bank. I personally am not a big fan of the more aggressive look of some of the smaller offsets I see in the 9.5” wide aftermarket options.

Are there pros and cons to the approach to going with the narrower wheel that I should be mindful of before making the purchase?

Another budget option that is wider is the 18x9.5 ET45 Motegi MR145

Personally, I’d go with a wider wheel. With the amount of torque the car has and being FWD, I feel that every bit helps.

I think you’ll be fine, especially if you’re talking snow tires. Keeping the wheels/tires tucked under the fenders is a good move too. Less slush and crap will get splattered down the side of the car that way.

Narrower snow tires are generally better on snowy roads, but you pay a handling price in the dry.
Tirerack's individual tires specs list recommended wheel widths. Worth checking that against the tires you're interested in.
I'm glad I don't have to deal with snow tires anymore!
