It's weird, we've had two days in the 80's this week, and the stick has completely disappeared for me since the warm up. I'm wondering it the car has magically fixed itself or it's something temperature dependent?
For me, it also comes and goes, and I noticed the problem when I replaced my battery. So, it made me wonder if the problem has to do with the computer or a calibration issue:?

I have noticed it's not as bad not that's in the 80's and 90's in Phoenix.
The problem is still there though.
With the engine off, turn the ignition on so the steering wheel is unlocked but you don't have power steering assistance.
You can clearly feel the notchy-ness still.

The problem also existed on the 10th gen... but not many people know about it. Unfortunately it's like having a rare disease ... you'll have to put up with gaslighting by the dealerships and fellow car owners until someone recognizes it as a legitimate problem. It's hard to re-create too. One recommendation was that if it happens to you, and you have made arrangements with your dealership or support.. then drive your car straight there, do NOT turn the car off, and have your support guy immediately drive it. Yeah I know that's pretty unrealistic right... but this is what some folks were doing.

Here is a post on the sister CivicX.com forum, where I included as much as I could find on the issue at the time, maybe this will help in some way.

https://www.civicx.com/forum/threads/2018-ex-t-steering.79940/#post-1213980

The 10th gen and 11th gen are pretty much the same car apart from minor improvements and the change in cosmetics, so I'm not surprised the issue continues... disappointed that you folks continue to deal with it though. Don't hesitate to lookup 10th gen issues because they are likely the same.

If you have the issue at all, don't fart around thinking "Oh it's my alignment" or "Oh it's my tires" or "Oh it's anything but a HONDA PROBLEM". FIGHT to get it fixed, because a Steering Rack is like $3000 or something. Get it fixed under your warranty.

My own (10th gen) sticky steering issue had disappeared for a long time, but I was on the highway the other week and I could feel it coming on very mildly again. Just that slight hesitation when you turn the steering wheel - you want to turn your car's steering by say 2 degrees, and you apply that appropriate pressure to the steering wheel, but the change in steering angle does NOT happen... so you turn the wheel a little more (harder) until it eventually kicks in, but now you have adjusted your car's steering too far, by say 5 degrees, and now you are turning too far and now have to correct back the other way. Scary AF if it happens to you on a highway in heavy traffic... I could never tie it down to temperature, battery changes, wheel changes, anything. I only found it to be noticeable on those long highway drives though, where one is adjusting small increments to deal with say wind or other minor road angle changes. Good luck if this is something you are dealing with.

It's said to be related to colder weather.

The steering gear contains a unit that includes a worm gear and a worm wheel. Honda stated this condition of momentary increase in steering effort occurs due to two factors within this unit. During manufacturing, the worm wheel goes through annealing and component conditioning processes. These processes caused internal stress and strain within the worm wheel. This strain was slowly released over the first few months of the vehicle life. Over time, the released strain caused the deformation of the teeth on the worm wheel, causing the worm gear to catch on the worm wheel. This results in the consumer’s momentary increased in steering effort. Also, the manufacturing process did not guarantee consistent grease application and therefore, some vehicles within the scope received too little grease which contributes to the momentary increase in steering effort.

I drive 2016 X generation EX and have approx 160K Kms on the car. Did not have this issue until last summer when I started noticing "Sticky Steering" on highway and also on city street.
Got it checked up and technician in private garage could not replicate the situation. Meantime it was fall time and ambient temperature got low and at same time problem started reducing. By the time temperature came down to single digit (Degree Centigrade) in Nov/Dec, problem disappeared. Will check by next Spring / Summer 2024 and report back.
Could this problem be related to Power Steering Module, as I read about it on Google search.
I read above that some of the dealership in USA has acknowledged it but what is the solution? change power steering rack? its good, if under warranty but otherwise it will be very expensive.

Just did google search and found this for 2016 Civic. Please check this link "https://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/Civic/2016/steering/steering.shtml" - there are 13 pages of complaints.

the more people report this to the NHTSA, the more likely a recall will be issued. took less than 5 minutes to submit a report. everyone should file a report so we get a proper recall instead of a TSB.
